“Girlfriend.”
Both Kiramman parents look at Vi, who’s reached over to grasp at Caitlyn’s bony shoulder, rubbing her thumb over the fabric of her blouse to bring her comfort, “Caitlyn and I are dating, which makes me her girlfriend.”
Caitlyn looks at Vi with wide eyes, but she doesn’t look pissed that Vi has just outed themselves to her parents. Like, yeah, maybe she should have waited until they could have discussed when or if it’d be a good time to tell the Kirammans about their relationship—but, honestly? They were pissing Vi off, and she wanted to make it known that Caitlyn would never, ever be harmed like that again. Not on her watch.
“Oh.” Mrs. Kiramman says simply, eyes wide with her surprise.
“And being her girlfriend,” Vi continues, “I’m not just going to stand by and let Caitlyn get hurt if I can help it. Yeah, I’m not an enforcer, but I’ll be damned if I let someone else get their hands around her throat like they did last time.”
