Her eyes were still tired from sleep; the deep green of her robe set her hair and skin off so both glowed in the dawn light; he could see the outline of her legs through the nightgown below the hem of her robe. He wondered if a better man would hide his eyes, run out the door, fly out the window.

Across the room, Adolin said something to Skar and leaned in to hear his reply. His eyes were shining, and he started laughing even before Skar opened his mouth, as if just assuming the humor of what was to come. A pre-pleasure. On a day when he was feeling less charitable, Kaladin would have taken it for artifice. A lighteyes, so desperate to entertain and be entertained, settling for a pantomime of connection. Kaladin almost wished he could conjure some of that comfortable disdain; without it, all that was left was a kind of pang in his chest and a sour curl on his lip. Adolin slung an arm around Skar's shoulder. Kaladin sank further into the bench, took another sip of ale, and gave up trying to look anywhere else.

Daniel’s face finally relaxed for the first time, and his eyes flashed with just a hint of familiar humor. They watched each other for a moment, and Teal’c felt the air in the room change. Daniel started to pick at the papers on his desk, playing at casual.
“What if that’s different now? What if, you know, because I ascended, what if I’m, uh-”
His speech faltered as Teal’c raised an eyebrow and took a long step closer to him.
“Yes, Daniel Jackson?”
“What if I’m not so easy anymore?”

Wilson rolled his eyes and tried not to let his mouth curl in response. House walked slowly toward the centerpiece of the room - a large three-seater couch in neat, pastel florals. Bonnie had been over the moon when she found it, face beaming with pride.
House seemed at a loss for words.
“It’s chintz,” Wilson prompted.

She vastly prefers him like this, though, maybe because she knows him now, and knows he isn’t a nice boy.

Wilson raised an eyebrow. “You wanna bet?”
The idea caused a loud, discordant crash in House’s brain. There was a high likelihood this was a bad bet. Wilson was disconcertingly good in bed, and even though House couldn’t vouch for the female factor, he had no doubt that Mr. “Take My Liver, Please, I Insist” had put in significant hours muff diving. On the other hand, there was a one hundred percent chance that this bet got him in the same room with Wilson and a hooker - the stuff dreams were made of.

Wilson glared back at him. “What will? Can we skip to that part?”
House raised his eyebrows. “Ooh, testy today.”
Cheap wine and sandy skin and House’s general jack-assery fizzled at his nerves. He had meant it before; he didn’t understand this game, and he wasn’t particularly interested in playing. Better to cut it off at the pass. He let out a sigh and asked, “Alright, how’d you know?”
That grin was back. House settled further into the couch, already gloating a little.
“Know what?”
Wilson glanced at the asses. For strength.
“That I sleep with men.”

Daniel laughed, loudly enough for the group of airmen a few tables over to glance over at them curiously. Suddenly, he felt watched. It was ironic, Daniel knew, that the two men most out of place on the base spent the most time there. Not even Sam, who he often found asleep in the lab, was on base as much as Daniel. He didn’t really have anywhere else to go, or anyone else to go to. And Teal’c - well, Teal’c was confined there. Voluntary or not, it was confinement.
Daniel looked back at Teal’c. An idea occurred to him, and he voiced it without thinking too much about it.
“You want to get out of here?”

“Up. Stand up.” The voice was steady. Sam holstered his gun slowly and raised his hands. “Shit, I said up, before I kill you right here.”
Sam got a foot under himself and stood. The barrel of the gun stayed pressed into his neck, warming against his skin.
"Face me.”
Sam turned, heels close to the edge of the cliff. His eyes tracked past the pistol looming close, to the man holding it. He looked about how Sam would expect. A dark bandana covered his face, and long greasy hair hung loose under his hat, almost to his shoulders. His shirt and pants may have been black once, but now they were the color of sweat, and grime, and dust from the road. There was a large knife strapped to his right thigh. He looked like the kind of man who could get a jump on Sam, who would make good on his promise to shoot, who knew how to survive. He spoke in a low growl.
“I know you’re tracking Pierce. Just stop and we won’t have a problem. He’s mine.”

Sam's a bounty hunter on the trail of a dangerous gang leader when he meets Bucky, who is after the same man - for far more personal reasons.

The man - Sam - lifts an eyebrow. “Bucky?”
“Nickname that stuck.”
“Short for...?”
“I’ll buy you a drink if you guess right.”
Sam smiles again, wider this time, so that Bucky can see a small gap between his front teeth. “You won’t otherwise?”
Bucky smiles back. It’s hard not to. “No, no, I still will. But I want to hear you guess.”
