Record scratch. Rewind. Seungmin gapes so hard he’s sure Minho can see all the way down his throat to his intestines. “Wait. That wasn’t a joke?”
“No?” Minho looks at him incredulously. “Why would that be a joke?”
“Because you…” Seungmin gestures wildly, letting out a slightly unhinged laugh. “You asked me on the last day of class with a muddy dandelion from the courtyard! And we spent three years at each other’s throats! What was I supposed to think?”
Kim Seungmin is a professional adult. He is mature, he has a degree, and he's starting a new job at a prestigious consulting firm.
Cue him coming face to face with Lee Minho, his personal high school migraine, for the first time in six years. After digging through a thick layer of stupidity and denial, Minho realises he's been spending the better part of a decade mourning a heartbreak that was self-inflicted, and Seungmin realises the mystery person he was jealous of was, in fact, himself. “That’s not true” Seungmin said wiping angrily at his cheeks. “People think that being unpresented at my age is like a disease. Like there’s something wrong with me.”
Or: Seungmin is desperately in love with his alpha roommate that seems to care deeply for him, just not in a romantic way. Unpresented and convinced he’s unlovable, he believes his feelings for Minho are destined to remain one-sided, no matter how close they are.

The music is almost loud enough to drown their conversation, yet it leaves enough space for Seungmin to hear — ponder — about the life they all shared what feels like decades ago now.
“I don’t know.” Seungmin picks up his glass, cold water sweating down the sides just as he takes a sip. It gives him enough time to really think about his answer and how honest he intends to be. “Yes and no.”
AKA… Minho and Seungmin are spending the weekend with their old group mates, and Seungmin has a lot of feelings about that.

Seungmin hasn’t presented yet.
It's weird, all things considered, to be in his mid-twenties with no designation, especially already being in a pack (well, unofficially. It couldn’t be official until he presented, but that's really just semantics if you ask Seungmin or the rest of the pack). His doctors aren't worried, though. Every check-up ends with him receiving a clear bill of health and reassurances that he's just a late bloomer and that there's nothing wrong with that. Both of his parents were late bloomers, too—though not ‘well-into-their-twenties’ late bloomers—so it's likely influenced by genetics, as well. His body would present when it's ready.
Needless to say, everyone's more than ready and excited for Seungmin to present, and everyone is fully expecting Seungmin to be an omega, including him.

— Jeongin? — Seungmin called, his voice fading in the empty corridor.
There was no answer. Only the smell, growing stronger and more intoxicating, pulling Seungmin towards the room.
Panic mingled with a deep, forbidden curiosity made the omega run down the hall, his heart beating wildly. The door to Jeongin's room was closed, Seungmin pushed it open quickly, and his brain processed the scene in slow motion.
Jeongin was lying on his back on the bed, his left arm covering his eyes as if trying to hide from his own reality. His lips were compressed into a tense line, bitten so hard they were almost bleeding. His torso, completely exposed due to the lack of a shirt, was covered by a sheen of sweat that reflected the room's faint light. His shorts and underwear were pulled down to his knees, the furthest the rigid ankle brace would allow.
Seungmin dropped to his knees on the floor with a dull thud when he saw Jeongin's right arm swinging as his hand quickly pumped his own cock.
