‘Shinsuke first heard of Atsumu early in the spring, shortly after his and Aran’s winter wedding. They had come home from their honeymoon to find the town quiet and largely unchanged, a few tinsel garlands from their ceremony still wrapped around the lamp posts in the downtown square.
“How were things at the clinic today?” Shinsuke asked as he rinsed some of last season’s rice for their dinner.
Aran sliced open a fish for grilling, pulling the bones out with a single, neat pull. “Good. I have a new patient.”’
In which farmer Shinsuke’s husband is Aran, the town doctor, and Atsumu is his new patient.
