Summary
Nick gets the feeling that he’s in trouble when he starts having chest pains, but he’s a little surprised when he actually starts throwing up flowers.
It’s painfully ironic, and just plain painful, but it also seems fitting that the first petal comes up on Valentine’s Day. He wishes that he could hate Jack for it, but that’s easier said than done, especially considering the fact that he’s apparently fond enough of Jack to start his mornings off hacking up a full bouquet into the trash bin.

All his worries vanish in a split second. He snaps his head around, and there’s Luis, sitting nearly all the way up, hands folded over his belly. When he sees Leon looking at him, he cracks that crooked smile of his, a little shaky at the corners. “Buenos días, mi cariño. Ah, or should I say buenas noches? It’s a bit too dark for morning.”
(Leon gets all of them away from Valdelobos, and has some realizations about Luis in the aftermath.)

Back in that cabin, anytime an infected grabbed Luis, the adrenaline that flooded Leon’s body felt different. It was no longer just his hero complex, it doesn’t feel like the protectiveness over Ashley… Whenever Luis is in danger, the sentinel in him wants to growl and shred the assailants to pieces. There’s something about the man that seems to directly affect his preternatural side – which doesn’t make any sense because Luis is a mundane. It shouldn’t matter that he’s making Leon go a little bit insane with his quips and smiles and the way he moves… He shouldn’t react like this.

All the while, he can’t stop thinking about Luis’ smug smirk, the flirtatious wink that had caused all of this. It attracts his attention like a lodestone, drifting back into his thoughts when he has even the slightest moment of clarity. Every time it crosses his mind, his dick twitches in his boxers. It’s the most aggravating, tempting mindfuck of a conundrum, and for the life of him, Leon can’t figure out why.

Luis' tone is snappy and he sounds alarmingly like he's fading away. Leon, not for the first time, feels out of his depth.
It's like it's finally sunk in that he's alone here. Sick. Dying, maybe. And he hasn't even saved one person. Not one .
And yet another is dying, slipping right through his fingers.
His eyes close and his hands shake, almost tearing another slash in Luis' ruined shirt.
"You're going to live." Leon announces, his voice weaker than he'd like. "Because you don't get to die on me. Not now. Not ever."
"Ever?" Luis laughs and it sounds like a fork in a garbage disposal. Blood bubbles on his lips and he weakly spits it out, staining the dusty floor a lurid red. "That's serious business, Yanqui."
