    “A month?” he repeated, confused.

“From now,” she clarified patiently. “My head will be better. I won’t be floating. And you’ll take me out."

His smile turned curious, sly at the edges.

    “Will I?”

“Yes,” she said simply. “Because you asked me out.”

    “Did I?”

    She lifted an eyebrow.

    “You should.”

She rolled her eyes, but he grabbed her hips and pulled them flush to his.

“I love that I’m the only one who can tell you what to do.”

She bit her lip, looking up at him, his inky hair and strong features. In this lighting he looked dark and dangerous.

    “Only sometimes.”

    He smirked. “Mmm. Sometimes.”

    Summary

Sometimes she felt high when they were like this.

She had never surrendered control, ever in her life. He never trusted himself to take it. But that’s what made the dynamic so intoxicating. She had never felt safer with anyone else, never loved and trusted someone like she did him.

And for Percy, nothing made him feel more alive than being the source of her pleasure. When he had been a marionnet all his life, a martyr for the fate of the world, it was overwhelmingly cathartic to feel powerful in a different way.

Not in the way that could defeat Gods or flood cities, but in the way that he could soften her with just a touch, a whispered sentence. Outside of this room, who people thought they were didn’t matter. They could give each other something that they could never find anywhere else.

"“Yeah, right,” Annabeth said sarcastically. “I’m sure I looked amazing in Tartarus.”

“You did, actually. It was kinda impressive,” Percy said with a lopsided grin.

Annabeth felt her face heat up. “Okay, well, you’re contractually obligated to say that.”

“Annabeth,” Percy said pointedly, raising his brows. “My entire existence is against contractual obligation.”"
