“Yes, I speak Russian,” he snapped, defensive and angry. He knew that it had been a mistake to even try to be friendly with Rozanov. “Why? Do I not look Russian to you?” He scoffed.
“No, not really,” Rozanov said. Some of his teammates laughed, although they mostly looked surprised that Shane was speaking to them at all. Rozanov didn’t laugh, though. “Are you Russian?”
“Go fuck yourself.”

“Ilya,” Shane says warningly, but he’s too late as the grin unfurls across Ilya’s face. “I said no laughing,” he snaps, glaring at him. “You’re laughing.”
Ilya shakes his head. “Is not at you, sweetheart,” he says, unable and unwilling to stop his beaming. “I am just—happy. To share this with you.” He meets Shane’s eyes. “You are—singularity,” he says, careful with his pronunciation. “My favorite.”
Shane goes red so fast, Ilya worries about his heart for a second.
“I just want to know you,” Shane murmurs, closing his eyes when Ilya lifts his hand up and strokes through his hair. “I miss you when you aren't around, and I want to carry the little bits of you I can.”
OR: Shane has some questions. Ilya always seems to have an answer. (And one time, Ilya has a question, too.)

“Well, yes.” Miyano would be lying if he said he was only looking to hook up. If that were what he was after, he’d have had plenty of opportunities in the past. But no matter how many people he went on a date with, it just never felt right somehow. “I have to start somewhere. I’m not expecting to find my soulmate after just a few dates.”
“I wouldn’t exactly call 42 ‘a few’.”
Miyano wants to snap back something, anything, to make this feel less humiliating than it is. There is no reason for Kuresawa to make up the numbers. While math has never been Miyano’s strong point, his friend’s career in astronomy comes with a certain necessity to engage in his worst subject. So, while he isn’t sure just why Kuresawa is keeping track of the numbers, he is fairly certain that he is correct anyway.
“You have a better idea?”
“Actually, yes,” Kuresawa says with a hint of a smile that makes Miyano shift uncomfortably on his chair. It gives off the feeling that this was exactly the question his friend had waited for. “Let me organize a date for you.”

Now, though, he was nowhere to be found. Thaisha frowned and did a quick loop before she went to the next most likely place for him to be.
The door to Aranessa's borrowed room was still half-open, and Thaisha peeked inside to find her not in bed, but sitting on the small couch on the other side of the room, eyes fixed on nothing in particular. Thaisha could see her only in profile, but she could tell that she hadn't slept.
Or: Thaisha gets a glimpse of Aranessa and Julien, in the wreckage of all they've lost, and starts to understand how little she understands him.

But before they find a client, Parker bounces into the kitchen and compliments Eliot’s cooking before she’s even had a bite. Then Hardison walks in, rubbing the sleep out of his eye and somehow making it to the counter before he collapses.
A normal day.
It stops being a normal day after Parker gets ready to leave and kisses Hardison on the lips. Not because of that, no, but because after that she walks up and kisses Eliot on the lips.

Coming home comes easy to most.
The welcome of comfort—of familiarity. The coffee cup stains on the desk and their usual golden indented rings, the creak of the 4th stair up, and scent of laundry detergent on the clean clothes you left in the drawer.
It should, by all accounts, feel good.
But on July 2nd, 2004, nothing could feel more foreign than the very place Jack Abbot called home.

This fic is about the incident that resulted in Jack’s amputation, and the life he’s thrust into after it. From navigating the emotional wreckage, ableism in all forms, physical changes, his life becoming flipped on it’s head, VA bureaucracy, and a whole other host of following factors; follow Jack learn to live with and eventually accept the cards he’s been dealt.

It sparks something in him, seeing Jack wearing his clothes, and what it sparks is the startling capability for Robby to put his foot in his mouth. Because in addition to thinking of Jack in his sweater, he thinks about his reaction to it.
Robby never claimed to be a smart man. Maybe in med school when he was young and cocky, but in recent times Robby has never assumed the position of intelligent. So, really, it shouldn’t be surprising that he’d also be unintelligent about all things Jack, too.
