Summary
It's not a surprise that he's not dressed. That his room smells more like cigarettes than usual; that he's not really alone, deep breaths next to him being the only sound in the quiet bedroom. So the night ended with a hook up; it makes sense. Valentino convinced him to use the services of one of his whores, probably. As he thinks about it, he's even able to grasp the faint memories of… he mostly just remembers the pleasure of it, honestly. And that's all he needs to remember.
He stares at the ceiling for a beat longer, listening to the quiet snores next to him, before sighing and bracing himself to actually get up. Spares a glance at whatever girl granted him a satisfying end of yesterday's outing, and wants to push himself out of-
Vox stops. Doubles back. His heart suddenly leaps to his throat.
It's not some girl in bed with him. It's not even a girl.
It's fucking Valentino.

"What." Vox grumbles, not bothering to turn back. "I'm busy, Velvette."
"Yes, hello, Vox. So nice to see you too, Vee. I'm great, thanks for asking, babe." Her tone is as energetic as always, even stained with heavy sarcasm. She appears in the corner of his vision; hops to sit on his desk. Even as he keeps his eyes on the screen, he sees how she slips her phone into her pocket, swinging her feet carelessly while staring straight at him. "Quick question."
"Couldn't this have been a call?" He huffs; his eyes still run over the text, and Velvette's presence does not help him focus. He needs to write a response to this, damn it, he can't write a response if he doesn't process the fucking-
Velvette pointedly ignores his question.
"When was the last time you got up from that chair?"

Honestly, no one. But that means that his business partners know how to get him to rest.

"I… I'm going to be honest, I don't know what it does exactly. For as long as I can remember, aunt's been talking on that phone almost every night. I wasn't allowed to touch it, though. I was still just a kid when she told me that, but- It's damn hard to forget, this thing. I… well, she told me not to ever, ever touch it unless I knew what I wanted to do. She said… At least, as far as I can remember- She said that… just like we don't like when Death calls to us, Death doesn't like to be called for no reason, either. But… they do accept callers, sometimes. Ones who are willing to make a deal."
Pascal's head is spinning.
"Ophelia." Urgency has a grip on his tone; this phone already has its grip on him. "What are you saying?"
There's a moment of silence. Barely a beat; it drags out for forever. Finally, Ophelia speaks up quietly.
"…phones like this are used to plead the Grim Reaper to bring someone back to life."

Summary
He doesn't know how long he's in this in-between state. It's like traveling through shadows, but without his control; drowning in the darkness, choking on the static ringing in his ears. He's more or less aware that what eventually brings him back up on the surface of consciousness after drifting away, though, is a loud banging noise. He shuts his eyes tighter. Is the battle still on-going…? Are those explosions? Are these pathetic remains of what was once his tower going to break into shambles too? Might as well, he supposes. What's getting buried alive in his state? Can it truly get much worse? Alastor just wants to sleep.
The noise comes again.
"Hey, Alastor? You there?" Ah- it's knocking. The voice from behind the door feels both close and far, far away. His ears are ringing. There's more knocking. "Alastor, if you're in there, please let us in- We wanna make sure you're okay!"

Or: After the fight with Adam, Alastor runs, with a wound on his chest and a wound on his pride. He hides away, no plan but for a hope that his attempt at patching up his injuries would be enough.

He's sitting on the elevator floor. He's nine years old.
He both knows exactly what will happen and doesn't know it at all. A part of him is nine years old, trembling lip and wide eyes trying to see anything in the pitch black and ears hurting from the more and more frantic yelling. A part of him feels small, confused and scared. A part of him doesn't know where this is going.
A part of him is twenty-six, knowing the turn of events by heart; knowing how it'll end from the very beginning, having relived it time and time again. He's trembling in fear all the same.

Except something is, because now he has Phoenix to support him through it all.

His mother’s tone is the rubber band snap of a corporate manager closing a deal, and she barely throws him a glance as she adjusts the brooch on her cardigan, eyes glued instead to her own reflection. John half leans against the doorway, so many years of being forbidden from entering his parents’ room keeping him glued to the threshold.
“Are you ready for this evening?”
A gala. A real, extravagant gala with gallons of expensive alcohol that John can't drink with his meds, and hundreds of interrogative faces that scrunch in pity whenever he catches them staring.
OR
A week after John's released from the hospital, his parents throw a ball.

I saw a textpost on Tumblr with this premise, and decided to write something short about it.
Alastor suffers the consequences of being violently electrocuted many times in a short timeframe in the form of arrythmias. It just so happens that a particularly bad attack hits him right in the middle of a conversation with Charlie.

Summary
Vox hasn’t slept in days- not really. He keeps his tower running, keeps the Vees fed with numbers and noise and results, keeps his faceplate bright and his voice sharp and his mask welded on so tight nobody can see what’s underneath.
Valentino notices anyway.
When Vox slips out of Vee Tower for “five minutes” and ends up in an alley with trembling hands and a cigarette he swears he doesn’t need, Valentino follows, and for once, he doesn’t let Vox joke his way out of it. He drags him back upstairs, past all the polished glass and locked doors, and refuses to leave until Vox’s screen finally dims and the act finally stops.
OR Vox tries to disappear into work. Valentino won’t let him crash alone.
