“Oh yes,” you reply, breathless, and whisper for you in your head so many times you hope he can hear you.

“Maybe. But I must admit I’m worried. I care about you, is all.” You watch the water rather than watch him. His helmet reflects back at you from the surface of the water and you realize that you are doubly removed from him, by the helmet and through reflection. The thought is dizzying, but his touch is more so. Slowly, as if he’s afraid you’ll reject his touch, Mando leans toward you and gently tucks a lock of hair behind your ear. It forces you to look at him rather than the water. Your breath catches. Somewhere your brain supplies the thought that, if he were any other man, without a Beskar helmet covering his face, this would be the point that you close your eyes and allow him to kiss you. You do close your eyes, then; a relaxed smile falling over your lips. You can’t kiss him, but you can imagine it.

Summary
You’re both sitting at the bar and you notice that the seats next to you and Mando are both empty, despite the place being particularly crowded. You notice the way people look, how they both stare openly and avoid the glint of his armor like the plague at the same time. It’s mesmerizing, the affect he has on others. It’s been months since you joined him and you feel you understand him quite well, especially with the breadcrumbs of his past he’s shared with you. At his core he’s kind, gentle; the sort of man who’d raise a family in the country and would never raise his voice to his wife. He’s bitterly sarcastic, and though he doesn’t speak to strangers much, he talks to you. This you chalk up to his way of life, which discourages friendships and puts focus on criminals and corpses. His past, his upbringing, stifles the man he is when he’s alone with you and the kid and forms a quiet, hard exoskeleton that looks a lot like Beskar armor.

The man sits in one of your plush chairs in the clothes you’d provided, his helmet, and nothing more. You were right – the pants were too short. His ankles peek through the bottom, skin looking sun-kissed a covered in dark, thick hair. Without the armor you could admire the slope of his shoulders, how broad they were, the size of his arms. He was built like a god and the sight of him takes your breath away. He lifts his head and your gaze is met with cool steel. The light of the fireplace jumps across the metal.

She takes a piece of fabric from beside her, giving him one last look with wide, curious eyes, meeting his in a way that makes him wonder if she can look right through the dark visor. He nods with all the restraint he can muster and watches her wrap the cloth around her head, covering her eyes.
“I want to kiss you,” she says simply with her hands folded patiently in her lap, and behind the beskar, Din Djarin crumbles into dust.
