Summary
When Steve wakes up in a body that isn’t his and in a city he does not know, he finds refuge in the role of Captain America and the endless grind of missions. He spends nearly every night on the rooftop of the tower, smoking useless cigarettes and wanting to go home.
Enter Bucky Barnes, a garden witch with a quiet life tasked with creating a rooftop garden for Stark Industries. As long as he ignores the yearning for something unnamed, he’s content.
Steve is just another stranger until he shows up one afternoon, covered in blood and bruises, and Bucky can’t help but magick his wounds away.
Sometimes, fate has a funny habit of drawing the right people together.

Summary
The balcony isn’t as deserted as he thought. The curtains hid another man from view. He holds a cigarette between dexterous fingers and takes a drag. The smoke dissipates into the evening air.
Steve can’t pinpoint who he is. He’s dressed in a black button up and fitted black trousers, clinging to every inch of infinite legs. Dark hair tied into a tight bun. Elegant wrists and plush lips curled around smoke. Sharp cheekbones and thoughtful blue-grey eyes, half shut and gazing.—
In all honesty, Steve has stopped caring about his birthday. So, attending a Fourth of July party full of corporate executives and politicians is just par for the course with being Captain America.
The one respite of the night comes in the form of a handsome stranger, a deserted balcony, and the sweetest chocolate cupcakes.

Summary
Bucky doesn’t speak yet. Instead, he leans against the doorframe and observes. Steve’s still in his pajamas, vulnerable in loose boxers and an oversized gray shirt, its stretched-out collar revealing the creamy skin of his shoulder blades. He’s slouched on a backless stool, sitting in front of his easel and holding a rounded piece of charcoal in his hand.
Looking at Steve now, he prays to a God he has never believed in, as he always does on nights like these, on the off-chance that somebody out there is listening. He wishes that he could protect Steve from the hurt, even though he knows it’s impossible. His love chose this life, and Bucky will hold him through the aftermath. Steve’s hand grasps the charcoal tighter. Bucky prays harder.

When Steve is fresh out of the ice, he does not sleep. The slip of unconsciousness is too much like dying. In time, he and Bucky learn how to cope.

Just for a moment, Bucky can convince himself that someday, the war will be over. He wraps himself in Steve’s warmth and commits the embrace to memory. Someday, he promises himself, I will build myself up from patchy switchgrass and razed earth, and we will have this again.
