He grabbed onto a harness, “off you go,” he said as he handed it to Thomas who smacked it away. “Newt, I’m serious.” he said with annoyance, he hated how stubborn the other boy could be. “I’m going last. If you’re so worried about me, hurry up and go so I can go.” He said, hoping Newt wouldn’t fight back. He was wrong.

Thomas and Newt are forced to work together to reunite with the other Gladers and get to the safe haven.
