The books had been rotting in the corner of a closet for years before they moved out of the trailer. He’d hoped, somewhat naively, that by moving into the Coopers’ old house, he’d banish the ghost of those stories for good, relegate them to haunting Alice’s forgotten, crumbling attic instead.
