Summary
Ranger Steven Harrington, a novice Jaeger pilot at the PPDC base in LA, has yet to be paired up with a co-pilot. Ranger Edward Munson, just recently transferred, has already seen his fair share of combat at the other side of the Pacific.
Despite starting off on the wrong foot, Eddie and Steve turn out to be Drift compatible. With the memory of recently losing his previous co-pilot and best friend still fresh in his mind, Eddie is far from the easiest person to establish a stable Drift with. However, Steve is determined to make it work, remaining patient and helpful with overcoming Eddie’s earlier trauma. Day after day, mission after mission, one shared memory after another, they grow closer, eventually developing feelings for each other that are becoming impossible to deny, or hide from one another; for in the Drift, there is no space for secrets.
Meanwhile, just a few floors below, in the restricted area of the base, a plan is being conceived. One that involves a young girl who can do the impossible, and might just be the only hope for humanity's salvation…

Today, Eddie took a moment to just watch. He was always careful, never letting himself look at Steve when he wasn't allowed. He never looked in the sunlight, when the highlights in Steve's hair turned gilded like the manuscripts of the old masters and the silver hooks in his ear lobes winked, or when the sweetheart of his lips was candy pink, when the green of Steve's hazel eyes lit up like a forest pool and Eddie couldn't look away even if he wanted. No, Eddie was only allowed to look in the dim light of a bedroom, when Steve's eyes were chocolate brown like his own and his mouth was parted in not so quiet bliss. Only then could Eddie trace the constellations of Steve's moles, the waves of his hair, or bite at the soft flesh of his chest and stomach.
But those eyes were suddenly fixed on Eddie, and the now common shock of school boy blush shot through him. Steve's gaze could cut through him like he was cold butter and Steve was the hot knife.

Or, it's Valentine's Day and Steve Harrington has woken up earlier to get his bakery ready for the day. His FWB Eddie steals as many moments as he can since he thinks his love is unrequited.

Summary
The prince smiles and plucks the lute from his limp fingers, carefully setting it down next to the bed. Eddie can’t recall when he stopped playing. “Look at you. Not just easy on the eyes, but smart to boot. Knew I made a good choice with you.”
Those graceful fingers are on his face now, caressing his cheekbones on either side, slipping into his curls, and Eddie’s insides are warm and light.
“My prince—” he starts to say, but that pretty face twists into a scowl and a soft finger pushes against his lips.
“Let’s try something new, Just Eddie.” Those beautiful eyes are alight with mischief, a temptation dangling just barely within reach. “When we're like this … Can I be Just Steve? Do you think you can do that?”
Something inside Eddie coils.
“Steve,” he whispers against pink lips. The name is sweet nectar, the juice of forbidden fruit on a hot summer day, a sin and a secret and an oath.
Steve smiles and the sun rises in the moonlit room.
Eddie says his name a thousand times more on that night and the nights that follow.
