Summary
After the accident that ended Sonic's racing career, people insisted that he should be thankful to be alive. Unfortunately, while that may be true, he's also very bored and, quite frankly, starting to feel like a burden: Tails makes enough money for them at his repair shop, but Sonic can see the toll it's taking on his brother. So when a mysterious benefactor offers him a chance to race again, Sonic eagerly accepts, becoming Eggman Industries' unofficial spokesman, the Phantom Rider.
However, when a new driver called the Dark Rider arrives on the scene, Sonic finds that his contract with Eggman Industries comes with strings attached. At the same time, his brother hires a new shop assistant, the mysterious and enigmatic Shadow, who instantly captures Sonic's interest. Torn between his morals, his love of racing, and his desire for Shadow's attention, Sonic will have to decide whether being the Phantom Rider really is worth it.

Rouge's lips pursed as she looked away, looking awfully guilty all of a sudden.
He narrowed his eyes in suspicion, "What?"
Rouge stretched her arms out on the table, tapping her fingers awkwardly, "Well... I don't think he's the silent type if I'm being honest."
"You got me a talkative bodyguard? Are you serious?"

Sonic is just happy to finally get a fresh start in life.

Summary
Sonic has reached the ripe age of 50 and is now longing for another adventure. One day, he wakes up back in Camelot, but it’s not the same one he left, as no one seems to remember those events other than Sonic; and on top of it all, they all think that he is the lost king Arthur who has simply lost his memories.
Arthur’s most loyal knight Lancelot is the same age as Sonic and a single parent, who is struggling with his sudden loneliness as his son Galahad has recently moved away. Sonic is enthralled by him, since he’s something that Shadow isn’t; mortal. Given their position as king and his bodyguard, the two quickly become close, closer than their titles would suggest in fact.
Now Sonic is struggling with his new duties and expectations – ones that he didn’t really even ask for in the first place. In the midst of it all, he’s trying to keep his newly blossomed relationship a secret, while also adapting to yet another new, unexpected title; stepfather.
