In August of 2259, James Wright and Ellen DeLoria - both recently widowed, both raising bouncing bundles of chaos - got together. In part because of The Overseer’s insistence to “pair the spares” but also partly out of sheer loneliness. “What harm would this do?” they had thought, as they agreed to marry. They didn’t love each other, probably didn’t even like each other, but who cared about silly things like that? At least, now, they’d have a partner to raise their child with and a playmate – a sibling – for that child.
