Summary
Shane was about to take another sip of his IPA when his entire body froze, the glass halfway to his lips. He knew that voice. It had been years since he last heard it, the grindstone of time smoothing the rough edges of the accent, but it was still unmistakably Russian. It was the voice of —
“Hollander?” The man asked.
Shane set the glass down and turned his head slowly, the stranger’s hood-covered face coming into view. He was looking at Shane with wide-eyed surprise.
“Rozanov,” Shane replied flatly.
===
Shane Hollander suffered a career-ending injury in 2014. Later that year, Ilya Rozanov medically retired fresh off of his first Cup win, the circumstances unclear. In less than a year, the hockey world had lost their two biggest rising stars. As well as a budding relationship nobody had even known about.
It’s 2022 now, and Shane hasn’t seen Ilya since. He's tried not to think about it, about whatever they were or what they could’ve become, both on and off the ice. He lives in Toronto now, just far enough away from the life he’d left behind. Only, the world has other plans in mind, when a chance encounter at a bar on New Year’s Day brings 2014 screaming back for him to confront.

Summary
“How did you know that Novikov needed tape earlier?” Ilya asked as he came back up. “He did not say anything himself, yes? Or you would not have texted me about it.”
“I heard him say it in Russian to himself,” Shane replied with a grin, switching to Russian.
Ilya’s face lit up like a Christmas tree. “You did? And you understood him?”
“Yes! I was so happy that I understood what he said. Of course, I had to tell you because nobody knows I can speak Russian.”
“Yes, it would be suspicious.”
===
A new Russian player, Dimitri Novikov, is drafted onto the Ottawa Centaurs in the same season that Shane Hollander is unceremoniously traded from the Montreal Voyageurs. His reasons for leaving Montreal are unclear, and the reasons he chose Ottawa are even less so. However, as Dimitri begins to suspect that Shane secretly knows Russian, his curiosity ends up getting him wrapped up in a relationship he didn’t even know existed. But perhaps a little turbulence is what Shane and Ilya needed to realize their relationship is strong enough to weather anything that comes their way.

Summary
“Hello, moya lyubov,” he said sweetly. “How is your head?”
There was a pregnant pause where Shane must’ve stood there in shock, his mouth slightly agape as he lost the ability to use any of his bodily functions. Then Ilya moved to pull him into a hug, the physical contact shocking him back to reality. He pushed Ilya away from the door with his good hand, Ilya going along willingly, and closed the door as quietly as he could in his panic.
“Ilya, what are you doing here?” Shane asked, his voice barely contained. “How did you even get this address, did you find it online somehow?”
The softness in Ilya’s face morphed into a wicked grin, which didn’t make Shane feel any better.
“I got address from your mother, silly,” Ilya replied, without a hint of irony or sarcasm.
“My mother. You got. This address. From my mother.”
===
A follow-up to "why do you hate him?". Shane doesn't remember much from his time in the hospital, which isn't helped when Ilya decides to surprise him at his parents' home. Shane knows he should be happy but...it's a shock, of course. But the time together allows Shane to learn a lot about Ilya that he'd never had the chance to before.

Summary
So that’s how Hayden found himself in Shane’s hospital room with Rozanov, JJ, and Shane’s parents, Yuna and David. Shane seemed to have managed to fall asleep despite all of the commotion, his eyes shut like he hadn’t a care in the world, like he didn’t have a concussion and broken collarbone and his archrival wasn’t currently in the room with him. Hayden was thankful for whatever painkillers they had him on to allow him to sleep so soundly.
Rozanov was glancing between the four of them, the doorway, and the single window in the room, his body language guarded. Maybe he was trying to figure out if he could jump out the window and survive a fall from the fourth floor, since they were actively blocking his only other exit out of the room.
“So, you are going to tell us, yes?” JJ said through gritted teeth. “What you were doing with Hollander.”
===
Yet another fic where Shane high on painkillers terrorizes his loved ones, especially Ilya Rozanov. But even while high, he does pose an important question: is there any reason to hate Ilya, the person, as opposed to Rozanov, the hockey player? Does anyone other than him even know Ilya well enough to really hate him?

Summary
Shane shouldn’t have even been driving home last night. He should’ve been in bed, with Ilya. Cuddling, or fucking, or just sleeping, or something. He should have been here, but Ilya had pushed him away. He’d started an argument over something stupid. He’d yelled at him. He’d grabbed him so hard it left marks. He could’ve stayed anyway but Ilya had made him feel like he couldn’t stay. Probably like it would’ve been unsafe for him to stay. He must’ve been a mess. Shane had made that drive hundreds of times throughout his life, in conditions just like last night. He…was it on purpose? Did he really hate Ilya that much? Or he loved Ilya so much and had just been thrown away by him like garbage. It was his fault. Shane could’ve died, might even be permanently injured, and it’s his fault.
===
An alternate take on Shane and Ilya's argument from The Long Game. A little more dramatic, including Shane getting injured and some themes of domestic violence/abuse. Sort of secretly a fix-it because I wanted to expand on the kind of conversation that Shane had with Yuna after the argument. Featuring emotional conversations with their loved ones.

Summary
Shane put God on a back burner sometime between the ages of eleven and twelve. It was around that time that he barely stepped foot off the ice. His dad would joke that he was born with skates on, while his mother cursed out a grown man for a bad play. God, religion, faith came second to the rush of adrenaline as he flew on the ice.
It takes seventeen years and the love of his life being dead for twenty-eight minutes to relearn how to pray.

Or, Shane's game is cancelled and he reads Ilya's would have been last messages in a tiny hotel room with JJ and Hayden at his side.
