It was well past midnight, meaning it was now technically Christmas. After turning off the TV, he shot all of his friends a text, including Jeremy. He knew it wouldn't be read.
He pushed himself up off of the couch, heading to the kitchen for a glass of water. On his way out, he looked at the heaping piles of cookies he and the girls had made.
He walked away.
...
He walked back.
"Just three," Jean mumbled under his breath, grabbing 2 sugar cookies and a gingerbread man. He set them on a paper plate and left them on the table near their Christmas tree.
He shook his head at himself in disbelief.
