The document appears to be a private diary, penned by one Kassandra Montcleir, of the D'Oisy system. The author, once betrothed to our great Emperor before the betrayal of his House, and his rise to power, is a unique witness to this pivotal time in history. How much of what she writes is true? That, history cannot answer. What became of her, however, is less certain still. The record keeps its silences. Names shift. Women become titles; titles become footnotes; footnotes become dust. We can only certify the artifact: the hand, the ink, the seal… and the fact that it was hidden well enough to be found much later.Or: I add in a shameless self-insert character, focus way too much on the worldbuilding of a made-up House in the Dune Universe, and pose the question no one cared to ask: what if Paul had a betrothed before the events of the first Dune Book? And what if she wrote a diary about it? This is that story.
