‘You don’t remember me do you.’ He says, neither cruel nor kind, it simply sounds like he’s stating a fact.
You swallow thickly around the emotions clogging your throat. Why does your heart hurt so much to say no? Like a coward, you glance away and shake your head awkwardly. Zayne watches you both with a strange expression but he doesn’t interrupt.
After the silence has stretched a little too long for comfort, the stranger sighs.
‘Well, I suppose I should introduce myself again shouldn’t I.’ he says, drawing your attention back to him once more. This time his expression’s a touch gentler.
‘I’m Skye. We’re…besties.’ He says deadpan.

edit: i forgor to explain Marianna's name. Gloriana is the name of a character from Edmund Spenser's play "The Faerie Queen" who was based off of Queen Elizabeth. her citizens would even refer to Elizabeth as Gloriana. Mary is the name of one of Queen Elizabeth's opponents, Mary, Queen of Scots. fun fact: Queen Elizabeth has the distincr honor of having both the longest reign of all the Tudor monarchs, as well as the last. she was succeeded by King James the 1st, also known as King James the 6th of Scotland, which would ultimately lead to the formation of the British Empire
