Summary
It was that day, Henry recalls fondly, that Randall had first proclaimed them to be brothers. If Henry had no family, the ginger reasoned, then he could be Randall’s. And Randall’s father would be his, as would his mother. They’d share, just as they shared toys.
Lord Ascot was quick to shut that idea down when his son tried bringing Henry to the table for meals. After scolding Randall, he took Henry aside and made it very clear what his position was.
Henry was not a peer to Randall. He was a servant, and his purpose at the moment was to make sure that Ascot’s son didn’t get into trouble. Henry was beneath them all, and if he dared to think that he was more, that he had the same rights and privileges as his ‘brother,’ Lord Ascot would be quick to reassign him to tasks that separated him from Randall entirely.
