An old custom to help unite nations was a marriage between two individuals, one from one nation and the other from an opposing. It should be simple: a paladin will pretend to date a Garrison officer and that's that.
Except, the officer who volunteers is hopelessly pining for the paladin who volunteers. said paladin is also extremely oblivious when it comes to anything relationship included. That's where it gets complicated.

Todays it was Till's birthday, the small gray-haired boy all giddy and excited holding his mother's hand to the Anakt Fair. A once a year opportunity, literally.
The scent of delicious caramelized sugar and fried dough curled the air like an invisible ribbon, wrapping itself around the excited murmurs and distant calls of cheap game stall vendors.
The small gray-haired boy, no older than six, clutched his mother’s hand tightly as they skipped through the bustling fairgrounds, his big teal eyes watching curiously the several prizes shops and stalls of sweet food like cotton candy, gummies and everything nice, his chubby index finger inside the warmth of his mouth.

They tried to outrun the raindrops, but it was impossible. And once they were about halfway home, it became abundantly clear that it didn’t matter— they were already soaked to the bone. Lu Guang’s clothes clung tightly to his frame and Cheng Xiaoshi’s hair hung limp around his cheeks and jaw, dripping. And so Lu Guang slowed from a sprint to a jog, and then to a walk, and then a complete stop, his hand in Cheng Xiaoshi’s slowing him, too. Cheng Xiaoshi doesn’t seem the least bit put out as he comes to a complete standstill with Lu Guang in the middle of a now abandoned street, turning to face him as the rain cascaded down around them and blanketed all other sounds.
That bubble that had found them on the basketball court is back, surrounding them as they try and catch their breath, their hands still locked as they stand toe to toe, staring at each other.
The love that Lu Guang feels for Cheng Xiaoshi in that moment is so overwhelming, it nearly knocks him straight off his feet.
