Of all people to darken his tent flap, Astarion had not expected Effie there, considering their little … incident.
He really hadn’t meant to kill her, just got a little … carried away after two fucking centuries of beasts. She was his first thinking creature and her blood was tinged with magic — how in the Hells was he supposed to control himself around that? What kind of starving man would stop when presented with a holiday feast? Besides, that strange undead thing that seemed to trail them around now fixed her right back up again (something about this not being her fated end, whatever that meant) so other than some exhaustion and looking a little drier than most people should, she was fine.
What he was not expecting was for her to show up and just stand there staring at him while he was trying to mind his business and read this stupid, talking necromancy book in peace. He had barely gotten a few pages in and was already getting a headache when she said, “You look hungry again.”
