She never had much cause to travel when she was young, but she always found the idea so intriguing – new places, new people, new stories and language and customs. She never could abide the idea that there was so much out there she might never get to know."

To say that Sybil wasn’t prone to dramatics would be like saying that she had a tidy little fund tucked away for a rainy day, or a passing interest in dragons - which is to say, a massive understatement. Summary
When Andreas Maler first came to Tassing, half a lifetime ago, gossip about the odd, talented young artist from Nuremberg had traveled fast. It was little wonder he managed to leave a memorable impression.
When the man returns -- to the town, and from the dead -- gossip travels even faster. Tassing has changed in the years since, and Andreas has changed too. But the people who missed and mourned him know the look of a person in need -- as do those who never knew the man whose stories and smiles have since been replaced by a deep melancholy.
And Tassing takes care of her own.
