He’s been doing it since the man drove him and Chris home during an earthquake, since the man dragged his son back to him through a tsunami, since the man carried him to a firetruck with his blood all over him. But even before those big moments, Eddie was falling in love with the little parts of Evan. The research binges and fun facts and the easy way he takes up space. The way he remembered how Eddie takes his coffee after seeing him make it once, the way he remembers silly anniversaries and old conversations and isn’t afraid to love his friends so loudly.

Summary
God, how he loves being Evancito. He loves how that sounds rolling off Eddie’s tongue. It’s so full of love, so incredibly fond, sounds so much the unconditional love that he’s been craving ever since he was a kid, when he was just sad, lonely, little Evan. Evancito. He thinks it’s ironic that it literally means little Evan. It’s like Eddie is directly speaking to his inner child, to that seven, eight-year-old boy who sought attention by harming himself on purpose. And it’s incredible, because Buck was sure he’d never be loved like this, fully, completely, wholeheartedly.
