Three men had come running, machine guns in hand, and two of them had disappeared through the adjacent wall before Bruce could even move; the third had raised his gun, and Bruce’s grappling claw had pulled it out of his grasp and sent him reeling. He’d tried to recover and had attempted to throw an uppercut, but Bruce had wrenched his arm hard enough to feel the ligaments snap in his elbow and had slammed his head against the nearest wall.
By then the screaming had stopped, the dust had started to settle, and Clark stood in the second hole he’d created, the bodies of the men prone and unmoving in the room behind him.
“You’d better have a good fucking reason —”
“I need your help,” Clark had said.

The first and third stories, “Triage” and “Darkroom,” can be read independently of each other and the rest of the series as stand-alones (but it’s worth mentioning that “Triage” does nonetheless contain events relevant to a smaller plot thread near the end of “Darkroom”). Similarly, the second piece, “The Talk.” can be read as a stand-alone. If you wish to read the last handful of pieces in this series, please note that you'll need to have read everything from “Darkroom” forward. Continuity matters quite a bit, as some of the stories pick up the moment after the previous ones end.

“Hello. I am RK800, an advanced prototype. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”
“It’s a little goofy looking.” The customer crossed his arms. RK800 frowned. The customer chuckled in surprise.
“I think it looks cool!” For the first time, RK800 noticed a young boy with the customer. The boy stepped forward and placed his hands on the android’s feet and looked up at him. “Can we get it, Dad?”
“I just have to know –-can you take care of my son? That’s all I need. Someone to cook his meals when I can’t, homework, bath, and stuff like that. Can you do that?”
“Yes.” RK800 nodded.
“Then we’ll take it.”
The young boy grabbed RK800’s hand and pulled him after his father and the salesman. RK800 stopped to step down from his display case and follow. The boy smiled up at him.
“Hello, Robot! My name’s Cole Anderson.”
“Hello, Cole.” RK800 smiled. “My name is Connor.”

Hank just wanted help around the house for Cole. He never expected such a goofy thing that laughed and hummed and protected Cole with all of his being. Connor is not like other androids --but neither of them truly know how deep those differences go.

Oswald is exhausted by now, his nerves taut, as he watches the patient - his first real patient - looking for signs of his condition worsening. But he seems to be steady, and the swelling subsides little by little. Oswald only now notices that his first patient is rather good-looking, with a square face and blond hair. He’s still unconscious, unmoving, and Oswald looks at the monitors that tell him nothing new. Epinephrine, antihistamines… did he do everything right? Did he read it correctly? The swelling goes down slower than it should.

Taalu had flown as far as she could, until the agony of separation became too great. She’d sped back to the alley and attacked the solicitous detective who’d taken Bruce over to sit on the fire escape.

Taking the opportunity to vent about his feelings for Ed and his hatred towards the woman he supposedly loves, Oswald lets Ivy into his life. Luckily for him, Ivy stops him from making the biggest mistake of his life and losing Ed forever. The only question is: what now?
Ed is happy with Isabella - for the most part - but he can't help but feel concerned by Oswald's becoming so distant. He wonders if the strange woman that his friend was so quick to trust is behind everything. If only he could think properly...
