Summary
Now, someone walked into the room. A boy, awkwardly standing at the side of his bed, looking over him worriedly. His hair was brown and scruffy, and he had big baby doe eyes and a yellow-and-blue horizontally-striped shirt like a cartoon character. The window was lighting him up like he was important to Mike’s narrative. The curtains are blue, thought Mike, this boy is light. I love metaphors. Maybe he was high on the pain meds. Upon seeing him, Mike felt a great affection, a great peace. Plus, he had long eyelashes. Mike almost giggled to himself. He was definitely a little high.
“Hi.” breathed Mike.
“Hi.” he said, hesitating.
“We’re friends?” Mike asked hopefully.
Or: During the Party's final battle with Vecna, Mike is gravely injured and loses his memories. He wakes up in a hospital only remembering a handful of inconsequential little things, like how much he loves a boy who seems like light.

Summary
On hiatus due to the semester, but I'll pick it up again in the summer!
There’s a lot to think about in the End-of-Days, if Mike is being honest. Will is being targeted by Vecna, and the Party had been noticing spots in the woods that make terrible thrumming noises and emanate Upside-Down-spores in huge puffs. Plus, ever since that night in the pizza dough cooler, El has been avoiding Mike, speaking in stilted phrases and hiding in her room, blasting rock music.
Despite these more serious concerns, Mike can’t focus on any of it, because there are two facts that he was decidedly not supposed to know that he had somehow discovered, which kept turning Mike on his head, over and over again:
One, Will Byers is gay.
And, coming much later, in a much more disorienting sweep off his feet:
Will Byers has a crush on him.
(or, Mike secretly overhears that Will likes him, and doesn’t know how to act. This all somehow leads to Mike finding out that El believes that she will forever be wrong, violent, and unable to love and be loved; and, centrally, Mike does a lot of staring at Will with his new rifle).

“He’s going to replace Karen. We’re getting a guy, Will. A guy!” Emily exclaims, one hand landing excitedly on his shoulder.
That lanky, impossibly tall guy over there is going to be completely naked in a few minutes. Right in front of him. And Will is just supposed to draw him. Observe. Measure proportions. Capture form and shadow. Then, somehow, move on with his life like this is a normal and reasonable thing to happen on a Wednesday morning.
The only thing that ever made figure drawing class tolerable for Will was that it was safe. Predictable. Boring, even. At first, having a naked woman posed under dim classroom lights had been awkward, sure. But it never made his heart lurch into his throat or caused him to forget how breathing worked. It was fine. He was drawing the female form for the sake of art. Completely manageable.
