Summary
Mike breathes out sharply, sinking to his knees in front of Will without conscious thought. Every bone in his body is turning to jelly, because Will is here, but he's also- not. His form is made up of the same dusty gold that fills the air around him, flaking off him and dancing around. Mike wants to reach out and catch the light in his palm. Will looks not entirely solid, like this is some poor imitation of him rendered in light particles, like his physical form is somewhere else, and for a horrible moment Mike thinks that Will is a ghost after all. That this is an illusion, brought about by Mike's hopeless yearning. If it weren't for the pebbles digging sharply into his legs as he knees on the ground and the crisp chill of the spring air on his face, Mike would be sure he was dreaming, but he doesn't think he could dream up something so simultaneously as magical and horrifying as the specter of his maybe-dead friend hovering before him.
"Will," he whispers, reaching out until his fingers are centimeters from Will's arm, and Will's eyes fly open.
on march 29th, 1986, will byers vanishes for a second time. 366 days later, he reappears.

Summary
Mike's jaw drops and he sits up to face where Will (assumedly) is, “You’re haunting me?”
“I guess?” Mike can imagine Will looking off to the side, scratching his cheek self-consciously.
He places his hands on Will’s shoulders, turning the other to look at him. He definitely looks stupid – his eyes closed while simultaneously trying to stare at Will intently.
“So you’ve been following me around this whole year?”
“Um. Yes?”
He groans, pressing the heels of his palms to his eyes. “Holy shit.”
“Holy shit.” Will echoes.
Or; Mike struggles with wanting things he can never have - like Will back alive. Even after he gets it, he still wants more.

Summary
“Dance if you’re real.” Mike begs him. Whispering as if they could be overheard. His heart drums in his chest, each beat like a clap of thunder, and his stomach rolls as if he’s on a rollercoaster.
After a long, torturous moment, Will begins to sway again.
His arms lower to Mike’s waist. They wrap around like ribbons around a gift, and his palms feel giant as they curl around his sides. Mike feels small again, but not in the same way he felt around his dad or Henry. He melts into Will's embrace as it swallows him up, encasing him like a shield.
It’s just as Mike had pictured it years ago, when he’d watched Will dance with a girl and dreamed of switching their places.
Or: Mike is trapped in the thrall of Vecna's curse, and only Will can save him.

“Why? Why won’t you ever tell me what’s wrong with you?” Carlton’s voice is filled with frustration, and it sounds like nails on a chalkboard to Will.
What is wrong with him. It’s such a loaded question. Why does Will wake up screaming sometimes? Why can’t Will handle the cold? Why are there days when Carlton’s hands on him feel like being kept under water with no way up?
And why can’t Will tell Carlton the truth? How could Will possibly explain it without sounding insane? What is the human translation for being taken and kept in another dimension, violated, and possessed, only to then be violated yet again—
This part of him is something Will is never going to be able to share with anyone else. That nobody would understand.
Why won’t you tell me what’s wrong with you.
“Because you wouldn’t get it.” Will somehow manages to say it without gagging.
And then, Carlton goes in for the kill.
“Oh, but Mike does?”
OR
After leaving Hawkins to go to college in the great city of San Franscisco, Will finally finds someone who loves him. The only problem is that the only person in the world who knows him, is someone else.
