Summary
Eddie overhears Buck talking to Harry.
“Harry, I know you're only 18, and you've already had a lot of loss, so I think you're so afraid of losing one more thing that you've decided that you'd just rather walk away. But I promise you giving it up is not gonna hurt any less than having then takes it away.”
But what did Buck walk away from?

Summary
“If Buck gets his way, you’re the one getting laid tonight,” Ravi points out. And then he tries not to think about what that would be like, Eddie under some beautiful and anonymous woman—or worse, Buck—while Ravi goes home alone to his right hand and a box of tissues.
Eddie takes another sip. “Buck gets his way as much as he needs to.”
And isn’t that just enigmatic enough to get Ravi invested? He takes his own sip, trying to seem cool and disinterested. The problem with looking cool is that it’s much easier to achieve from afar. Eddie has seen him puke in a bush after a gruesome call, and once Ravi got broken up with by text when he was on-shift and ate an entire pint of ice cream, and Eddie knows he plays frolf, of all things, and it is very hard to be cool under those circumstances.
Or: Ravi doesn't have a crush on Eddie, because he has self-preservation instincts. Okay, maybe he doesn't. Because if he did, the evening wouldn't end with him trailing Eddie to his truck, filled with foolish hope.

Summary
Thinking of strong arms embracing him from behind. Amber eyes and a soft strand of hair falling over a forehead. A scar on the bottom lip and a tattoo wrapped around a forearm—Buck blows on the eyelash. It flies away in the wind.
Finally, he tears his eyes away from it. His stare meets Eddie’s again, whose grin still hasn’t diminished.
Buck stutters out, “Sorry,” and takes a small step away from him. Eddie still doesn’t budge.
“No, it's—” Eddie’s fingers brush over where Buck’s once were on his face. “Uh, what does it mean?”
“Hmm?”
“The eyelash. It must mean something,” Eddie says. “Apparently, everything has a hidden meaning now. Tell me about it.” His tone is soft, and Buck melts like putty in his hands.
OR Buck becomes strangely and obsessively superstitious about all aspects of life to hide from the fact that he’s deeply in love with his straight best friend.

Summary
“You shouldn’t be here, either. He’s an asshole, he’s not even—”
“Why do you care?" Buck interrupts him, raising his tone, “It’s not like I’m gonna marry him!”
“I sure hope not!” Eddie replies loudly, offended, then, thinks to himself, you’re gonna marry me.
(Or, Buck decides to date again. Unsurprisingly, Eddie crashes out and sort of steals someone’s identity in the process. It goes better than expected… Truly.)

Summary
"Buck sat in a cold plastic chair with his knee bouncing, and sipping a lukewarm coffee he’d gotten from the shop across the street who definitely didn’t give him the almond milk he’d requested. The hum of dental equipment droned faintly behind double doors, and every so often Buck caught himself smiling like a fool when he thought about Eddie and the fact that he was even here..."
Or, Buck takes Eddie home after having his wisdom teeth removed. Too bad Eddie is clingy when he's high...
