Summary
Izuku Midoriya's expectations of visiting the UA Development lab did not include meeting Katsuki Bakugo: support-course prodigy, general menace, and the only person who looks at his hero work like it’s something both logical and sacred.
He doesn’t expect to start staying late, or the quiet lamplight, or the way Katsuki leans in close when he’s explaining something complicated, voice low, precise, almost impatient.
Over time, it stops being academic collaboration. It’s the slow, dangerous realization that they’ve begun orbiting each other—drawn in by brilliance, staying for something neither of them is naming yet.

“One event,” he says. “I’ll try it once. If your agency sucks, I’m out.”
Deku beams like he just won a lottery. “Thank you, Kacchan! You’re the best!”
“Also I want to pick the suit.”
“Done.”
“And you never speak to me in public on campus. I don’t want fucking reporters or stupid fans following me”
“Absolutely.”
Katsuki leans back. “You’re really gonna drag me into high hero society and pretend I’m your boyfriend.”
Deku smirks. “Oh, Kacchan. You’re gonna sell it better than anyone.”
Katsuki groans and orders a steak. If he’s gonna do this, he might as well eat something expensive while he feels his dignity slipping away.

Because under the swearing and hard exterior he wasn’t a person, right? Just some good for nothing kid that could never own up to his mistakes. The typical jackass that picked on the underdogs and deserved every wrong thing that got handed to him. Regardless of his hopes to be a Hero, he’d forever be treated as a villain in his own narrative. There was no happy ending for him, he didn’t get one. He couldn’t change even if he tried, and if he did it would just be overshadowed by everything he’s ever done wrong in his life. Right, fucking perfect. Just fuck Bakugo Katsuki, I guess.

And it’s in that moment, standing on a bright orange rug in a darkened living room, that Aizawa realizes just how bad this is. Not necessarily in the severity of the injury, but the look on Bakugou’s face. That was submission. Exhaustion. Acceptance of the situation, and an unwillingness to fight.
Bakugou Katsuki does not submit.
Aizawa has so many questions, not enough sleep, and two students that need him to take control of the situation. So that is what he does.
