It’s a bad shift. It starts out bad and they lose too many patients too fast. They lose people they shouldn’t, people they should’ve saved and Dennis does too much CPR and can’t find a pulse, and he gets sprayed with fucking blood again and has to change his scrubs and through all of it is fucking Dr. Robby hovering like he’s waiting for the right moment to fuck with him. Waiting for when he’s finally winding down from another (ridiculous, avoidable) code and then pops up to slide a warm hand up his spine, to rest, splayed, across the top of his shirt, brushing skin. It’s comforting, most of the time and today it makes him anxious. Makes him feel like he’s missing something the way he keeps missing shit with his patients and it fucks him up.

You didn’t waste any time starting compressions. That probably saved that baby’s life. You saved that baby’s life.”
The praise goes to his head, suffusing him with endorphins. “Thank you, Dad.” And he promptly wants to crawl out of his skin and slither down the drain with the after birth slop.

The door is locked when he gets there, which is weird. Jayce fishes out his key from his pockets and unlocks it, freezing on the threshold once his eyes adjust to the penumbra inside.
What he sees feels like a fever dream.
There’s someone there, in between Viktor’s spread legs, shoulders so big Jayce is sure Viktor is straining just to accommodate the man. The stranger’s head bobs in an unmistakable way and even though Jayce cannot see anything, he burns with embarrassment at having caught his partner in such a lewd position.
(He also ignores the part of him that itches with the newfound information that Viktor is, apparently, into men. Of course Jayce had heard the rumors, but a true man of science only believes in proof. The cut-off moans he hears are more than enough for him to accept this postulate).
Or: Timetravel shenanigans place s2!Jayce way too far back in the past, where he meets his younger self and a Viktor who still hasn't lost his way. They bang.
