III is dying. Vessel knows this. Has known it for a while now. He was like this when he joined them, and it was only by the power of Sleep that he was able to continue living.
Sleep is a god of many things, but healing is not one of them. Slowly, III's body outpaces Sleep's ability to hold it together. He can fill III's mind with dreams, He can dissolve the pain into the quiet mist of sleep, but He can't fix what's been broken. Not like this anyways. Not while III’s body still exists in the waking realm.
He can fix him, but he needs to be broken first. He tells Vessel what needs to be done. Sleep can feel the emotions roiling off of him, shock, anger, fear, repulsion, but after a moment Vessel, His ever loyal Vessel, bows his head, and Sleep can feel his acceptance. He too knows this is the only way to save their beloved.
“It will be done.” He kneels before Sleep, and even in the dream Sleep can see the way his hands shake. -
