The child blinks at him, then lifts a little hand to make what is recognizably letters in the sign language alphabet, but too quickly (and possibly clumsily, given tiny fingers) for Jayce to follow.
"Sorry," Jayce says. "I didn't catch that, I'm not very good with sign. Can you go slower for me?"
The child looks up at Viktor with wide, solemn eyes and tugs on his pants sharply, twice.
Viktor smiles down and brushes his hand over unruly curls. "Her name is Isha," he tells Jayce.
"You have a very pretty name," Jayce tells Isha seriously. "You want to trade? I could be Isha and you could be Jayce."

Summary
He can imagine it. Jayce coming home with a goofy smile on his face, proudly proclaiming he’s met someone. He would need to leave the cottage of course. There would be no more sharing a bed or even living together if Viktor wanted Jayce to have a real semblance of normality. The cottage would be so empty without him. No one would hold him when he cries, but really that would be fine. He doesn’t deserve it anyways. He deserves to be forgotten here, and maybe he can begin to atone for his past, starting with helping Jayce become happy.

Feeling guilty about everything that occurred with the Hexcore, Viktor makes it his mission to help Jayce have a new, normal life, starting with helping him find a romantic partner. He didn't anticipate how painful that would be for him though.

Summary
The rules make sense. Viktor doesn’t argue with the logic of them. He has fainted too many times on too little food. He knows what it costs Jayce to find him collapsed, tangled in cables and half-lucid. He knows what it means to wake up with Jayce’s coat draped over his knees and his face drawn tight with fear. They’re rules born of necessity. Of intimacy. Of love, if he’s being honest about it.
But they’re still rules. And rules untested are only theory.
He thinks about it sometimes- absently, without malice. Just the way he thinks about most systems. Every framework must be stressed. Pressure applied. Boundaries observed not only when convenient, but when strained.
Because what good is a rule if no one minds when it’s bent? What good is a promise if no one notices when it’s broken?
Or: Viktor deliberately disobeys soft rules- not out of malice, but to test how far Jayce will go. He learns the latter pretty quickly.

“I recognised your handwriting,” Jayce blurted out as they were about to leave his apartment to make the trek to Heimerdinger’s lab.
Viktor turned around, hand still on the keys which he had just finished stuffing back into his pocket. “From where?”
Realising that he’d provided no context, Jayce hesitantly rolled up his left sleeve and shifted his cuff upward to reveal the words on his wrist. “Look, it says—” he paused, taking in the words again. It was almost the same except for one.
An amazing genius. I can work with this.
“It said erratic earlier this afternoon,” Jayce mumbled, thumbing at ‘amazing’.
Or: The thoughts that people nearby have about you appear on your skin. Jayce doesn't care for them—or so he says—until he meets Viktor.

"What?" Viktor spat, pushing back from the table."I told you I didn't ever want to be someone's wife." Jayce froze, holding his hands up defensively.
"It would be like a lavender marriage," he explained quickly and Viktor paused, his shoulders dropping.
"I'm listening."
"We get married, my mom gets off my back, I put you on my insurance, I own my own game company and I made sure we were covered for everything, you move in and help me keep my place tidy because I am actually terrible at it, come with me to events so I can show you off, you get the spare bedroom except when our parents visiting, I get access to my trust fund," Jayce explained, keeping his voice hushed. "It's mutually beneficial, like a business arrangement, which is exactly how our parents are treating it."

“You are very dramatic.” Viktor tilted his head. “But if you ask me whether I am fine again, I will hit you with my cane.”
The words were out of his mouth before he’d even had the chance to process, and he nearly froze, not sure what possessed him to say such a thing. He opened his mouth, ready to do damage control, before—
Jayce barked out a laugh, loud and unrestrained.
“Yeah, well. Sorry for worrying about my partner.” Even through the faint sarcasm of the statement, the words were suffused with such fond, familiar warmth that Viktor felt his breath catch in his chest.
Partner?
Well. That certainly explained the touch. And the warmth in his voice. And the way Viktor leaned toward him instead of away— an innate response. This, at least, made sense now. Viktor had not dared to include this option as one of his preliminary hypotheses.
They were together. Dating. Whatever the most adequate term would be.
OR: Viktor gets amnesia, logically concludes he and Jayce are together, and starts running experiments to confirm it. Jayce is whipped. That's the fic.

Lucky, him. Perhaps that was the hardest part to believe.

Summary
For all Jayce knows, Viktor could be coming home to a spouse who loves him dearly and who Viktor loves just as much. Viktor could be coming home to a partner who’d kiss him in the doorway, and then they’d lay in their bed, sleep in that same bed, and do things in that bed, and Jayce is totally not jealous of a person that may not even exist. (Was the sarcasm in that last sentence clear enough?)
Jayce just wants to be sure that if he expressed his interest more clearly, he would not be risking Viktor’s pity and the wrath of Viktor’s lover when Viktor would eventually express his discomfort to his most loved person about working with the man who confessed to him.
So, when he sees Viktor walking by with a small girl holding his hand and looking exactly like Viktor, his hopes break. Because Viktor clearly has a daughter, and so there’s no way Viktor doesn’t have someone special in his life — the girl’s mother, for example.

The midterm was rough, and he heard rumors that Professor Heimerdinger’s finals were even worse. Besides, the Professor didn’t offer a curve, so Jayce couldn’t hope that just being high above average will save his (so far perfect) GPA.
He knew he would be able to do it on his own, but he could use some help. Perhaps get some motivation. Maybe find a study partner who would help him out on more difficult problems. Basically, Jayce just really needed to lock in.
Therefore, when he overheard some classmates talking about an app called Grindr, his attention was piqued.
