“Who is this?” Gaius finally asked.
Merlin yelped in surprise as he turned fast enough to almost lose his balance and stumble. The purse of Gaius’ lips and the raised eyebrows told Merlin his mentor was struggling not to laugh at the display. Merlin wouldn’t admit it, but he appreciated it.
“I found him on the street, I think he’s a druid. He can use mindspeech, but he can’t or won’t speak to me. I don’t really know who he is or where he’s from, but he needs help, Gaius. I couldn’t just let him freeze and starve out there. It’s just for a few days, I promise –”Or
Merlin finds Mordred on the street on a cold and rainy night and decides to take him in. He starts teaching the boy how to control his magic and Mordred soon becomes Merlin's ward.

Summary
It was easy enough to forget how Merlin's eyes had glowed when he'd made wet wood burst into flame. It was small moment, after all. It wasn’t as if Arthur had noticed anything else.
Arthur, very quickly, began to notice a lot more.
(Arthur realizes a lot of coincidences happen around Merlin. More specifically, magical ones. He bends over backwards to justify them, and he finds himself falling into accepting magic, as well as maybe accepting that he's in love. Not that he'll ever admit it.)

He touched the clover with the tip of one finger, as if it might crumble. His heart did something strange—skipped, then thudded hard enough to echo in his ears. He reread the card twice, three times. The handwriting was terrible. Thick chicken-scratch, words squeezed near the edge from a miscalculated lettering size, and the color went outside the lines, but it was deliberate. Someone had labored over those words.
He knew who it was from.
