Nothing comes as a follow up but the click of a lighter and the soft sizzle of a flame. The snow cover around them dampens the other sounds, making the sizzle feel so loud in Steve’s ears.
Bucky inhales slowly on his cigarette and still doesn’t look at Steve. He keeps his eyes focused on the dark of the forest in front of them–thick and inky. Behind them, the sky struggles with the last of its light.
