Tom feels sixteen again, discontent and disregarded. He hates it. He won’t stand for it. “And if I refuse to?” Refuses this refusal of his person. This denial of what lies between them, the mystery of those unreadable eyes, the hum of danger that dances over Tom’s skin like pinpricks of static. Yet the higher and faster he rises within the Ministry, the more the whispers have started to abound about his Dark Arts affiliations, his unwavering alliance with the old Pureblood families, and his vehemently anti-Muggle sentiments.
Tom realizes he needs to soften his image in order to increase his public appeal.
And so, he thinks he’s found a solution in Harry Potter.
Or, at least, in convincing Harry to pretend to date him for long enough that he’s seen as someone who can work across the aisle.
