“Quiet,” he hissed, touching the knife tip to Yusuke’s throat, drawing forth a bead of blood, a tiny red poker chip that Yusuke could stake his life on, adding it to the same pot he had begun to recklessly build when throwing his lot in with the enemy only weeks earlier.

“Of course,” Akechi is smiling again, teeth flashing against the blood of his mask. “My apologies if I have disappointed you.”
“You have,” Yusuke replies, blunt. “You are far uglier in person.”
Akechi’s mouth twists into something unpolished and unpracticed. Natural, and a bit sharp. His lip starts to curl up before he exhales, and the skin smooths out. Pristine. Pleasant.
“I see,” he says. He does not speak to Yusuke for the rest of their time in Mementos.
Goro and Yusuke debate beauty and the subjectivity of art and truth. They also get dinner.

“People change as long as they live.” Ryoji sighs and Makoto feels the warm breath hit the back of his neck. “I think I’m afraid too. What if he’ll never hear me? What if I can only stay by his side and watch, like a lighthouse over the tides?”
Ryoji’s voice is so mournful. Makoto turns to him, slow and careful, scared to brush his face with the tip of his nose. Ryoji’s keen, patient eyes meet his own in the darkness.
“Is staying by his side not enough?”
Ryoji’s lips tighten. He shakes his head gently and says, voice straining with effort: “It is. But I wish he’d make that choice himself.”
