Summary
One thing Masato’s always liked about Ogasawara’s house is how its neighborhood feels like a small town, with cast-long shadows and trees that scrape up against facades. A senpai with one over on him has been drip-feeding him old-school mystery novels and the atmosphere of a sleepy someplace about to bear witness to a tragedy of some kind has been growing on him the way mold grows on a bathroom wall.
Something he’s never liked so much, on the other hand, is the lack of privacy—exchanged Good evenings with kindly neighbors are throwing something of a wrench in the knot of misery he’s cultivating in his gut to keep himself upright. That, and it feels wrong to have witnesses to his lawfully entering the house through the front door.

Hanzawa folds over, startled by his own eminently familiar laughter. Sasaki doesn’t need to tilt his head too far down to look at him because his hand comes up, wobbling, while he catches his breath. “It wasn’t my fault!” Hanzawa wheezes. “I was being ferried around right in the middle of our party. I lost all sense of direction ages ago.”

There are a lot of meanings for the word ‘like’. Kanoko likes the cat, and she likes when it rains, and she ‘likes’ the old woman’s dumplings. So just because the detective says he ‘likes’ her, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he meant it like that, right?
Or, Kanoko slowly learns how to be accepted and loved, and everyone is soft.

literally everything I fucking wanted in terms of a portrayal of lucy + her friendship with natsu is sooo well-written. such a lovely exploration of a lot of the fairy tail canon as well. as someone who holds the entire loke arc near and dear to my heart this take on it made me tear up it was so good
