Porsche freezes. He stares Kinn down.

Pete would raze the world for Kao, but sometimes tact is easier.
“I think we’re getting better,” Kao says. “It takes way longer now than it used to.”
“Feels a lot better too,” Pete agrees. He rubs his thumb over Kao’s sweat-wet hairline and settles into the haze of pure relief that embraces him whenever he thinks about the permanence between them now. “Hey,” he says.
Kao, his lips and eyes softening from a grin to a smile, mouths it back.
