Tom moaned, eyes fluttering from pleasure coursing through him at the words.

Cartman sobers immediately and the switch is staggering to Kyle. The false mirth in his eyes dries up leaving cold detachment.
“Too late,” Cartman says cryptically. “Anyway, you couldn’t handle it.”
Kyle’s rage is fading to a cold disappointment. “Just be fucking honest for once, dude.”
“You want honesty?” Cartman tilts his head consideringly. “Fine.”

Summary
Kyle’s life looks perfect on paper. A steady job. His own place. Friends who would bleed for him. But underneath it all sits an ache he never outran, the kind tied to a past he never got closure from and a certain someone he spent years pretending he didn’t need.
Eric Cartman vanished right before the beginning of their lives under mysterious circumstances, leaving Kyle, their town, and every unfinished truth between them scattered in the dust. Years passed. Kyle moved forward. The ache never disappeared.
Ignore something like that long enough and it mutates. In Kyle’s case, it becomes a fixation, a pull he can’t break no matter how hard he tries.
So when Cartman finally comes back, he doesn’t come quietly. He brings secrets, new scars, stories he refuses to tell. A trail of violence. Mysteries no one is ready to face.
Yet, nothing between them ever stays buried. Not the hurt. Not the want. Not the obsession that threatens to swallow them both whole.
They never did things the easy way. They only ever knew how to survive each other.

Week one slid into week two.
Now the absence was a weight. In the mornings, the other pillow was cool and untouched, the blankets undisturbed. He’d bury his face in that pillow sometimes, breathing in the faint trace of Cartman’s cologne, warm and sharp, until his chest ached.
The calls grew shorter. Sometimes they just texted. Kyle would send a picture of the cat or his dinner; Cartman would send back a blurry selfie or a complaint about the coffee. The warmth of his voice was missing, replaced by words on a screen that didn’t carry the same closeness.
By the tenth day, loneliness had curled itself into something hotter, heavier.

Summary
Stan once asked him after a particularly gruesome fight why he even bothered to hang out with Cartman. Kyle shrugged and said that Cartman was fun sometimes. Stan had looked mildly unconvinced but dropped it, not wanting to pursue any further.
Truth is, he likes the fights. Kyle has been a goody-goody, straight-A, golden boy for most, if not all, of his life. Cartman is his foil, the one who brings out the worst in him, but in Kyle’s mind, that’s for the better. It’s so unbelievably boring to continue to play the part of “good kid” all the time, and the only sense of thrill he gets in this godforsaken town is when he’s fighting Cartman, whether it be verbally or physically.

Things are changing in Kyle Broflovki's life. They're not very fast, but he can see them in the distance and it's scary. His friendship with Stan Marsh may not be what it once was, as Stan gets more and more caught up in being Wendy Testaburger's boy toy. His sexuality is in question and it doesn't bother him as much as it probably should. To top it all off, his once arch nemesis, Eric Cartman, may actually be stepping into the role of new best friend and he's not sure how to feel about it. Juggling all these emotions and changes is hard enough without making some pretty big mistakes along the way.
But those mistakes might just be worth it.
*There are smut warnings in the beginning notes of each chapter that has it, for those who prefer not to read that. If you don't like smut, you can still enjoy the story!*
