Summary
The way her lips curled made Rio want to cozy up and die atop of them with how plush they appeared, the faint smile lines bracketing the corners of her mouth. The bartender crossed her arms, now leaning on her forearms and pushing up her cleavage; her sternum reflected a heart with three swords pierced through it.
She grinned at Rio’s silence. “Sweetheart, you’re very cute, and I don’t mind doing this for another five minutes, but there’re people waiting.”
“Dude, come on!” A man grumbled from behind Rio.
Rio’s mouth felt dry from the time spent with her jaw on the fucking floor. “I- uhmm. Wha- I- you- uh…”
“Are you having a stroke or something?”
“I like your tattoos,” she blurted in lieu of something better. “W-what do they mean?”
“Means I had enough disposable income,” the bartender deadpanned. “I’m afraid you’ll have to buy something. Looking at me, while an admirable pastime, does not pay my rent.”

Holy shit,” Rio says aloud. Agatha is somehow, miraculously, alive. Rio feels her own heart start beating faster in her chest with each distinct thump of Agatha’s heart through the warm skin in her neck.

Rio quickly fished around for their wallet, pulled out a bill, and forced their legs to push their body up and stick one leg in front of the other until they were at the bit of the stage where people were meant to tip before they talked themself out of it. The woman’s eyes were strikingly blue. And Rio had been paying so much attention to the color it wasn’t until the bill slipped into the woman’s fingers and her expertly-shaped brows minutely raised in surprise that Rio saw Benjamin Franklin’s face on the bill.
Okay, fuck. What was Rio going to do, take it back? They felt their face heat up as they dragged their feet back to their chair. It was a miracle they didn’t faint right there on the sticky bar floor.

Agatha snorted. “Sure, hon.” Not one to sneer in the face of good sportsmanship, Agatha grasped Rio’s hand and shook it firmly. “My office, once the meeting ends?” they offered, unbothered by Rio seeing their hungry gaze flick up and down her body.
Rio smirked. “Give me ten minutes after, so I can debrief my team, and then we can talk.”
“Yes,” Agatha agreed with a lascivious grin. “'Talk'.”
Agatha and Rio are rival pediatric blood cancer research professors at Salem University. They fight a lot. They fuck a lot too. Some would say that they fuck more than they fight.
