Summary
At long last, after a grueling year in Avernus, Karlach, Wyll, and Astarion have found a way to remove Karlach's engine for good. Returning to Baldur's Gate (and a small cheap flat in the Lower City) Karlach recovers under the careful attentions of her lover, Wyll. There's only one problem: they've let Astarion stay with them. And though Astarion knows that this living arrangement must be temporary and the happy couple will get tired of his company soon enough, he finds himself growing attached to the little life they've made.
It doesn't help that he's madly in love with both of them. Or that they're all sharing a bed.

Wyll clings to whimsy.
This is because whimsy is one of the true forces of good in this world, though Wyll has met a few villains devious enough to use whimsy for evil. Wyll delights in it, basks in it, but if you twisted his arm, Wyll would admit that maybe, okay maybe he gets a little something from colorful cloth and cheery sayings, from a painting he hung in the break room of mice in capes wielding swords and from decorating the sole old oak on the property with soft lights in different colors.
If he believes in his heart of hearts about the natural magical power of whimsy, then Wyll really will have magical power to heal people.
But only if he believes!
In which Wyll and Astarion both work at an almshouse taking care of the elderly. Wyll does not trust Astarion one whit, up until he does and begins to fantasize about him in strange ways.
Unfortunately, their mutual pasts keep trying to find a way to try to drag them back to Baldur's Gate.
