Anathema pokes her head in the door when she hears the thud of the basket on the floor. “What’s up?”
Aziraphale simply points at the shirt. He’s not quite deep enough in his grief to cry at everything, at least not anymore. It’s not quite the ocean it was a few weeks ago, even if the waves are still strong. He’s managed to get a little closer to shore again.
“Oh,” Anathema says. “Oh, Az.”
And okay. Maybe he is still deep enough in the ocean to cry. It’s been weeks, now, since he’d last found anything, so maybe he’d just wrongly assumed he was getting better.

Jack breaks the silence with, “I could probably tell you parts of these from memory, y’know.”
“Then why don’t you?” Alex says. Jack’s eyes are still closed against the sun.
He takes a breath. ” ”Name one hero who was happy.” “ he begins. His voice is low, gentle, like he’s afraid to shatter the peace in their little bubble. “I considered. Heracles went mad and killed his family; Theseus lost his bride and father; Jason’s children and new wife were murdered by his old; Bellerophon killed the Chimera but was crippled by the fall from Pegasus’ back.”
He waves his hand absently. When it falls, it lands in Alex’s hair. Neither makes any move to shift it.
“ ”You can’t.” he was sitting up now, leaning forward.” Even with his eyes closed, Jack can feel the weight of Alex’s eyes on him, completely enthralled.

“I’m still not sure if this even is our world, John, however displaced in time we are,” Arthur mused, shaking legs moving still, one after the other, “Do they have the same myths? The same cautionary tales of hubris and love? Orpheus and Eurydice?”
They have us, John said.
The darkness descended on Arthur as he gasped, not in pain but in shock, or relief, or maybe even love, or something else John has yet to understand. It killed Arthur quickly, but not quicker than the cry in John’s throat.
And John wondered if Arthur felt loved each time he died, or if he just felt dead.

Arthur and John strike a deal with a shadowy being deep beneath the earth to walk from its lair unharmed, but it quickly becomes obvious that Arthur doesn't know the true scope of the terms. At least they can try again, and again, and again.
