It’s like when you’re a kid, and you’re at the beach, and you decide to go for a swim in the ocean and you swim and swim and swim on and on until you realise that your feet can’t reach the seabed anymore, and then you go a little farther because you’ve already gone too far, so might as well. But when you look down and see the water lapping at your shoulders as you keep yourself afloat, you feel a sense of vertigo. All you can do is hope that nothing will come out of the deep and devour you.
“Of course it’s not. My forgiveness won’t save you. Not even my love for you will save you. If your own father now stood in front of you and told you that he forgives you, that still wouldn’t be enough. If all the people in this world told you they forgive you, it still wouldn’t save you.
