    I got to thinking about how, even though Gracie was clearly a flake, she couldn't actually have been as much of a kook as she was made out to be. For one thing, no one would have called her a brilliant actor if she had been exactly the same when the recording stopped. And then I got to thinking about how much George loved Gracie. And then I remembered my mother telling me that America loved Gracie so much George once received hate mail for accidentally blowing smoke in her face.

    She must have had some rabid fans.

    I wondered, how did they handle the extreme ones?
