Work Text:

At three pm, August 3rd, Ranboo forgets where he put his keys.

It's a simple thing, everyone forgets it. He doesn't get why everyone is so worried about him. His memory is bad, but this is a common thing.

Still, Ranboo doesn't understand why Tubbo's so worried about him. He's grateful to have a husband that loves and cares about him, but this was a bit too much.

After all, it's not like it's going to get worse than this. It has been like this for years, why would his memory fail so suddenly?

He'll just brush it off as Tubbo being way too concerned.

"It's the fifth time this week" Tubbo frowns, trying to explain his worries "You can't think that's normal, Ranboo"

Everyone has their own depiction of normal, and to Ranboo, this was a completely normal situation.

Ranboo thinks Tubbo's exaggerating. Seriously, why is he worried about Ranboo forgetting his keys?

"Don't worry about me, Tubbo" He says, attempting to calm Tubbo down "I'm going to be alright"

Maybe he should have looked into it more.

At six am, August 20th, Ranboo forgets Micheal's name.

He wasn't going to admit his memory was getting worse, he didn't want to be a burden to other people. Apparently, Tubbo didn't understand that.

"You should've told me, I could help you with this" Tubbo says, holding Ranboo's hand "I don't want you to forget about me"

"How could I ever forget about you?" Ranboo asked, the idea of forgetting his own lover seeming impossible.

After being together for so long, how could he ever forget about Tubbo? He was definitely underestimating Ranboo, his memory could never get that bad.

If he has to be completely honest, this is starting to freak him out. Forgetting his own child's name? That's worrying.

But, he doesn't want to be a burden. So he acts like everything is fine

"I won't forget anything else" Ranboo promises, smiling at Tubbo.

At ten pm, September 10th, Ranboo forgets his own name.

"Just tell me, Tubbo" He demands, trying to not focus on Tubbo's sad expression "Tell me my name"

"Ranboo" Is his simple reply.

He feels terrible, guilt eating him alive. Ranboo promised his memory wouldn't get worse, but he could hardly remember anything.

Memory isn't something anyone can control, and Ranboo knows that. But, he still feels terrible for lying to Tubbo.

"Thank you" He manages to say, tears threatening to spill from his eyes. Ranboo felt like he couldn't speak, his own emotions constricting his voice.

Tubbo doesn't look better, though. His tired eyes gazed at him with a numb expression, Ranboo barely remembers a time when they were full of joy.

"Please, next time you forget something, tell me" Tubbo begged him, his expression changing from a frown to a blank face. He does that a lot when he's sad, in an attempt to block his feelings. It's funny how they both try their hardest to block out their feelings, even if it never works.

"It won't happen again" Ranboo lies, in a weak attempt to make everything alright.

"That's what you said last time" Tubbo sighs, crossing his arms "Don't make promises you can't keep"

-

At five pm, September 25th, Ranboo doesn't remember what L'manburg is.

"What do you mean you don't remember?" Tubbo sobbed, clutching Ranboo's hand tightly "Can't you even remember something?" Ranboo shook his head, frowning.

"I don't know what L'manburg is" Ranboo explains, voice barely above a whisper.

"Nothing?" Tubbo tries once again "Not even when I was president?"

"I'm sorry, I can't remember" He says, trying to remember something, anything

His mind was foggy, like a big chunk of his memories were gone at once. He can't remember how he and Tubbo met, Ranboo guessed it had something to do with whatever L'manburg is.

No matter how hard he tries, nothing comes up.

At three pm, October 11th, Ranboo doesn't remember who Tommy is.

"You don't remember who I am?" Tommy asks, eyes widening "This isn't funny, Ranboo"

People thinking he was joking was something that happened often, he wasn't sure why, though. Was he supposed to be joking all the time? He can hardly remember who he is, relying on what people told him.

The boy wasn't familiar to him, even though he insists that they know each other.

Alliums were the first thing that Ranboo thought about when seeing him. He wasn't sure why, though.

"I'm sorry, who are you?" Ranboo mumbles, starting to get used to having to ask that question.

"I'm Tommy" He answers, voice barely audible "Please, tell me you remember something?"

He can't remember anything.

At seven pm, October 30th, Ranboo doesn't remember who Tubbo and Micheal are.

"I'm your husband" He tries to explain, words falling to deaf ears "He's your son"

He has a son and a husband? How much of his life did he forget?

Their marriage is blurry, memories trying to fuse together, but forming nothing. He can't even remember his husband's name.

Ranboo only remembers his husband's smile, the way his eyes lit up with joy. It was something he was never going to forget, the memory seemed to be engraved in his mind.

Ranboo knows he's sick, he's known for a while. He won't admit it until the end.

"I can't remember" He says, the words coming naturally to him "I'm so sorry"

His husband falls apart in front of him.

-

When he looks in the mirror, he doesn't recognize the person that looks back.

The reflection is unknown, he can't even recall it's name. Everything is a blur, and he feels like he's going to be sick.

It feels like he's going to pass out, fall on the floor underneath him. And yet, he keeps looking, trying to remember something.

But, all of his attempts end up in vain. Memories of the reflection are long gone from his mind.

He doesn't have friends or family. If he did, he doesn't remember it. He's all alone in this world.

At eight am, November 7th, Ranboo forgets himself.
