A simple little thing, hope you enjoy.

Work Text:

Silence wasn't something Obi-Wan was used to but now it seemed it was all that surrounded the air around him. Is it air? Or something else? He remembered it, the soul searing pain, the tears that wouldn't fall… then finally the saber and… nothing.

There is nothing now. Nothing to look at, nothing to listen to, even the force which had ebbed and flowed around him for all his life was no longer present.

Maybe this was his penance. A fitting punishment in death for all of his failure in life.

There was a pop in his eardrums, like a sudden change in pressure, and then he could hear again, "Come on General you gonna sit there moping all day or you gonna join us?"

No. It wasn't possible… was it? Obi-Wan's head snapped up with surprising force, almost audibly, "Co- Cody?"

His voice was watery and broken but he couldn't care less at that moment because Cody, his dearest Cody, was there and he was smiling that beautiful smile he saved for Obi-Wan alone. He looked relaxed, hale, possibly better than Obi-Wan had ever seen him in life.

"Come on Obi, it's time to come home," Cody reached out to him and for a second the jedi thought he was hallucinating. But the thought was there and gone in an instant, he knew his mind could never concoct something so wonderful.

"Home," it sounded like a prayer and an oath all in one, "Home, with you."

The clone's smile softened and his dark eyes shone with love, "Yes, our home. Just you and me.. and a few of the others to bother us if you don't mind."

Obi-Wan's resulting laugh was almost hysterical as he was filled with a burst of energy that sent him flying towards the other man, "I could never mind, my dear! Never."

Cody stepped out of the embrace but only enough to wrap an arm around the jedi's shoulder to lead him towards… home. The shorter man settled his head onto his shoulder, so wonderfully free of armor, and he whispered one last time before deciding to enjoy the comfortable silence, "I wish… I would give you the universe if I could, but all I have left is my heart."

There was a soft chuckle next to his ear, a soft brush of air, "Don't you know that's more than enough, cyar'ika?"
