PART ONE: The Awakening

There was a rumbling of the earth as he walked through the vast field of black lilies; their scent sickly sweet, mixed with something acrid. He’d never smelled a flower like that in his life. Or in fact seen one so dark. Almost as if it was capable of absorbing light.

Everything about this place was wrong. It wasn’t just the faint sounds of screams, but also that lingering burning feeling as he pressed on; growing hotter with every step forward.

He wiped his sweat beaded brow and let out a sigh. “What the hell is going on?” He wondered.

Something brushed against his ankle, resulting in a yelp. When he looked down there was nothing there. As if he’d been stroked in a phantom touch. That knowledge only ensured his growing fear.

“You’re going mad,” he told himself.

That had to be the truth. He tried to pull forward his last memory before he’d woken up here. It was there, in the back of his mind, but seemed to be fading rapidly.

What he did remember was a strange figure standing before him, muttering something in a seemingly dead language that he couldn’t understand.

Then there was that hallway, or whatever it had been. His memory was too distant to see it clearly now. All he knew was that he’d felt like he was walking for an eternity.

That was before yet another figure, giant and unfocused like the last, was standing in front of him. From what he could tell, this figure wasn’t human, at least not its head. Dark pointed ears stretched towards the sky. Canine snout showing sharp teeth.

An object swayed before the figure, and he had somehow ended up here; in the vast ocean of black lillies. Never in his life had his dreams been so strange.

Something whispered, so close to his ear that the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. But there was no feeling of breath, just that heat that had been surrounding him; now a scorching heat.

Once again, he couldn’t understand what was being said. Though, at least now he could see a light, faintly glowing in the distance. Maybe it was instinct, but he suddenly felt desperate to reach that light, before he was consumed fully by the darkness.

“Stop,” a deep, seductive voice filled his ears. One that he would crawl for if it asked. It spoke in his native tongue.

He did as he was told. When he looked around he saw no one. Just that vast field of strange flowers, which now seemed to shimmer like the night sky. They were beautiful, yet the sense of danger didn’t dissipate.

“Where am I?” He asked the voice quietly.

“In a place that you deserve to be.” The answer came in a purr, as that light in the distance became smaller.

The voice was so enticing that he couldn’t bring himself to move without its instruction.

A low chuckle, and then two glowing ovals appeared. What the fuck? His mind managed what his mouth couldn’t.

He tried to scream, but no sound escaped him…
