Chapter Text
“Hm hm hmm♪ “
Mizuki smiled as they sat a little further back into their chair, looking at their work so far.
“Are you done?”
“Not yet, keep your eyes closed”
They put down the dark eyeliner, grabbed a set of fake eyelashes and gently applied it to her friend's eyelids.
They then gently blew over the colourful glue, helping it turn transparent as it dried.
“Alright, open your eyes”
An followed instructions, and after Mizuki gave her a thumbs up, she turned towards the mirror resting on her desk.
She looked at herself for a second, taking in how the unusual makeup didn't bother her as much as it would've in the past.
Noticing her satisfaction, Mizuki proceeded to grab the hair straightener that'd been heating up, gently starting to curl her hair.
“You're awfully silent today, has something happened?”
“I haven't been all that silent, what are you saying?”
“Then, how come you asked me to come over and even allowed me to give you a makeover? Something must have happened, c'mon, don't lie to me”
An sighed, all too aware of how Mizuki wouldn't have dropped the subject even if it killed them.
“I...”
“...”
“...”
She paused, her stare growing more tired as she stared at her reflection, her hair falling here and there after Mizuki worked them.
She gently moved it out of her face, looking down afterwards.
“I confessed to Kohane and she rejected me”
Mizuki froze for a second; then swiftly moved their hands back through her hair, curling the next lock of blue hair.
“So sorry to hear... Do you want to talk about it?”
“...Hm”
“I can't tell if that's a no or a yes... So, how did it go? Did she just bluntly tell you no or did she give you an explanation?”
An's brows furrowed a little.
“She told me that she doesn't see me in the same light, so... We'll just continue to be friends and partners”
“Hmhm”
“...It's for the best, after all, if we were to get together and things got ugly, that'd be trouble for our music”
“How mature of you”
“Oh shut it... Fuck, I'm going to ruin your makeup...”
“Don't worry about it, it's all waterproof”
“It is?”
“Hmhm, after all, I gotta look the cutest even while bawling♪ “
“You shouldn't say such things...”
An let out a small giggle... that soon turned into soft sobbing.
Done with her hairstyling, Mizuki gently placed her hands on An's shoulders, prompting her to look up.
The girl saw her reflection and calmed down, frowning at her appearance.
“Wow you were right, it's totally waterproof... Although I do still look and feel like shit”
“Don't say that! I think you look just great. Either way, I think some distraction is what you need most right now. Is there anything that you wanna do?”
An sighed again, bringing her knees to her chest while Mizuki packed up their stuff.
“Not really...”
“Then how about a walk?”
“L-Looking like this?”
“Exactly! You look so good that it'd be a waste for no one to admire you♪ It'll be our little date♪“
“Please don't call it a date, I don't want to think about dates for a looooong time...”
An didn't look too enthusiastic, but she knew that just sitting around and moping wouldn't have done her any good, so she agreed to go for a walk around the neighbourhood.
Her beloved neighbourhood.
Just breathing in the fresh air as they walked around the familiar sights calmed her down, like nothing ever could.
She was glad that Mizuki had dragged her outside.
“Thank you”
Mizuki turned to An surprised as they sat down in the park.
“For what?”
“For...”
She gestured to herself.
“Everything. I needed to get my mind off... what happened, and you came to my aid, so... thank you”
Mizuki softly smiled, but it quickly turned into a happy smirk.
“That's what friends are for! What else was I supposed to do? Just leave you moping at home all alone?”
“Ehy I wouldn't have done that...”
Mizuki laughed, resting their back on the cold metal, soon regretting it.
“...Say, why didn't you call Haruka?”
An glanced at them, then averted her gaze, unsure.
Very unsure.
Yeah, why had she?
“I... don't know, honestly”
“...”
“...”
“...”
“Pfu... Pfuahaha!”
“Wha--”
Mizuki laughed, straightening their back and pulling out their phone.
“Ignore my question, please! Jeez you're weird today, you seriously need to sing something!”
“Oi, wait a sec...”
“C'mon! I'll join you, it'll be fun!”
An sighed as Mizuki smiled brightly at her, starting a random song they both knew.
As they both sang Mizuki couldn't help but softly smile whenever she glanced at An.
Their heart felt so heavy and light at the same time.
Right at that moment they tried their best not to think about it, to be there for their friend...
But as soon as they got home, all they could do was pick at their feelings.
Should they have been happy or sad at the fact that An had confessed to Kohane and gotten rejected? Maybe a little bit of both? Sad because their crush liked someone else, but happy because she was rejected?
And now what? Did they also confess? Wait? Do nothing?
An... she wasn't like their other friends or interests.
While they struggled to get closer to people like Ena and the rest of Nightcord at 25, An was different.
She knew about their identity,
and she didn't care,
nay, she cared and made sure that they felt at ease whenever possible.
She was such a good friend.
But...
Maybe Mizuki wanted something more.
But was too afraid to grasp it.
They pulled their face up from their pillow, grabbing their phone and scrolling through the gallery for a while.
They then opened a video that An had sent her of her and Kohane rehearsing.
Oh, how she smiled so brightly, no amount of makeup would have ever been able to make her look as pretty.
They glanced at Kohane, then put their phone away.
“What an idiot you've been, rejecting her... So stupidly lucky...”
