Work Text:
Dazai stared as he stood in the train.
They were returning from a mission - a failed mission, and no one was in their best mood, but the victim was someone who had been suffering with depression and had died that day due to suicide, and... Well. You could say it was a rather personal matter for Dazai.
As he kept staring at the horizon, eyes unfocused and blank, he blinked with someone pulling on his sleeve. Turning his head to face downwards, his eyes met with Kyouka's, who was now staring at him with concerned eyes. He forced a smile. "What is it?"
Kyouka stared at him with that signature frown of her on her face, eyes shining. "You're not okay." she simply stated.
Dazai blinked, his smile fading. Then he chuckled bitterly. "Well, what can you say?"
Kyouka dropped her gaze, breaking eye contact. Then she snuggled up against him, leaning her head on his chest as she kept holding his arm. "It's not your fault..." she muttered.
Dazai froze for a moment.
And it wasn't much maybe, but it definitely sprinkled a little water on the wounds burning inside him. He sighed, rubbing the little girl's shoulder.
"I know." he said.
He didn't.
