Work Text:
Derek was walking down Lincoln Street in Beacon Hills when a child, who must have been about fives years old, suddenly runs past him and directly into the road. He could see the car coming, only a couple of meters away and about to hit the boy. Derek didn’t hesitate, he quickly moved forward and pulled the boy backwards by the jacket. Had he been a second to slow the car would have rolled right over the kid and surely killed him.
“Thanks, Mister.” Derek heard the boy say and looked down. The kid had big brown eyes and was looking up at him.
“MILES!” A woman shouted and at his name being called the boy turned around and towards his mother, who was running to them, quickly pulling the boy into her arms and standing up.
Derek was still standing there and was just turning around, when he suddenly felt a tight grip on his arm. It was the boys mother looking at him with fierce eyes. “Thank you. Thank you for saving my son. How can I ever repay you?”
“There’s no reason to thank me. I’m just glad he’s okay.” He was ready to walk away, but she was still holding onto him tightly, Derek feeling light pain even with his werewolf strength.
“No. You saved my boy. I need to repay you somehow. Let’s see. Ah a werewolf, no wonder you were able to move so quickly. A werewolf with so much pain in his heart. Oh my, you have lost so many loved ones. And still you are so very kind. I know what I can do for you. I can place you back in time and you can change something. Save your loved ones.”
Derek looked at her with wide eyes the second she commented on him being a wolf. “You’re a witch.”
“I am. And I owe you a life dept. So who’s do you want me to change?”
“The fire-?”
Derek watched her eyes turning sad. “I wish I could do that for you, wolf. But my powers are not that great. But if you choose wisely you might be able to save more than you think.”
He thought about it. If he couldn’t prevent the fire. He could save- “Laura.”
“Yes. Your sister. I will return your conscience to the moment where she was about to leave. You will have to make sure that the same things don’t happen again.” And then suddenly there was heat emanating from the spot on his arm where she was gripping him and then everything went black quickly.
Suddenly Derek was back in his and Lauras apartment in New York. And his sister was standing next to the door, a suitcase standing next to her, while she was putting on her leather jacket.
“I’ll be back in two weeks, Derek. You’ll be fine. Maybe go out and have some fun for a change.”
The sudden change was so disorienting that it took him a second. Laura was nearly out the door. “Laura wait.”
“I have to go Derek. I’m going to miss my flight.”
“Laura you need to listen to me. I need to come with you, because if you go alone you are going to die in Beacon Hills.”
His sister raised the Hale-typical eyebrow at him. God he had missed her. “Is this supposed to be a joke?”
“Listen to my heartbeat, Laura. You go alone. You will die. And I can not let you do that again.” When she didn’t try to leave again, Derek knew that she had believed him. He moved closer to her and pulled her into a tight hug. Her scent in his nose felt like he was finally coming home. She was alive. And this time she would stay alive. Derek would make sure of that.
They decided to drive back to California instead of flying. Derek knew he needed the time to explain everything to Laura. Everything that had happened before. To make sure that she understood and that they could make a plan about Peter.
When they arrived back in Beacon Hills, they booked a hotel room and left to go to the hospital to go and see Uncle Peter, and hopefully be able to save him this time around.
But they didn’t get very far. Derek saw the Sheriff and Stiles leaving a diner. The must have had lunch together. Stiles, back to wearing his hair in a short buzzcut and too big clothes. God, had he really been this young, looked this young, when this whole thing had started?
The boy must have felt him staring, because before he could get into the Sheriffs police cruiser he snapped his head and looked over to where Derek and Laura were standing. Derek quickly avoided his gaze. Stiles didn’t deserve to get pulled back into this world, where things tried to kill him every couple of days.
Derek started to follow Laura when he heard it. “Sourwolf.”
He stopped for a second and then shook his head and kept walking. “Sourwolf I know you can hear me.” This time he knew it wasn’t just wishful thinking. Laura kept sending him questioning looks, but Derek just kept on walking. He could hear Stiles telling his father that he forgot to pick up some books from the store and the cruiser pulled away leaving Stiles behind.
“Sourwolf. I swear to everything that is fucking holy in this god forsaken town. If you don’t stop ignoring me and come back here, I will shove so much fucking wolfsbane down your throat you will still taste it at Christmas.”
Laura was definitely stopping now. Watching Derek with big eyes and then he watched her eyes flashing red when the world wolfsbane registered in her mind. She quickly moved her head around, trying to find the person who had threatened her little brother.
Derek sighed loudly and turned around, Stiles already walking towards him with a frown on his face.
“Derek I swear to everything that exists. Why the fuck are you ignoring me and what the fuck did you do?”
“I didn’t do anything.” It was a reflex, bickering with Stiles Stilinski.
The boy took another step towards Derek and was about to shove a finger into his chest, when Laura flashed her eyes at Stiles and started growling.
Stiles only rolled his eyes. “Zip it Laura, the adults are talking. Though congratulations on being alive again.”
Laura huffed at that. “You’re twelve.”
“This body is sixteen right now. Which brings me to my question. Why and how am I back in my sixteen year old body?! So I’m asking you again Derek. What. The. Fuck. Did. You. Do! Did you piss off another witch? Because the last time you could only talk in rhymes for a fucking week, before we tracked her down and forced her to break the spell. I can’t believe you pissed of another witch. And why did you go alone again. I swear at somepoint your matyrdom is going to get you fucking killed and I’ll have to figure out how to bring you back á la Peter and I’ll probably have to ask Zombiewolf for help and you know how much I hate that-”
“Stiles. Shut up. I didn’t piss off a witch. I saved her child.”
“What? And then she cursed us?”
“She didn’t curse you. And she didn’t curse me.” Derek was really getting frustrated and he couldn't believe that Laura hadn’t said anything. She was only gawking at the both of them. “She was grateful that I saved her sons life and she said she owed me a life dept. So she gave me Lauras. She put my mind back to when Laura was about to leave New York and this time I came with her, so Peter wouldn’t kill her again.”
Stiles still had the frown on his face. “That doesn’t make any sense, Sourwolf. Because why am I here then? Why was I just working on a case at home and suddenly I’m in my childhood bedroom and sixteen again?!”
“I don’t know. The witch didn’t say anything about you.”
“Who the hell are you?” Laura finally found her voice again.
“I’m pack.” “He’s pack.” Stiles and Derek said simultaneously.
Laura clearly wanted to ask another question, but Stiles held up a finger to shush her and Derek was surprised that it actually worked on Laura. Stiles’ gaze was glazed over and Derek could basically hear Stiles mind going through everything he had just heard.
“Tell me again. Tell me exactly what the witch said to you.”
“She asked me who I wanted to save and I mentioned the fire, but she said she wasn’t that powerful. But if I made the right choice I could save more than I thought.”
“Okay. You chose Laura. And she brought you back here. And you came back with her to Beacon Hills. That choice should be enough to change the past. But you’re here. Your mind didn’t snap back to our present with things having changed. You’re here and so am I. So what am I missing. Save more than you thought. What could that- oh. Oh that’s clever.” Derek had always loved that expression on Stiles’ face. When he had figured out a difficult problem, when he had solved a puzzle. He always looked so smug, which was deserved of course. Stiles had that look now. “You didn’t just save Laura, Derek. You gave us a chance to save everyone we lost. Peter, Erica, Boyd, Allison. All of them.” Stiles was grinning with his whole face and Derek got it. He knew exactly where his mind had went. And he got it. They could save all of them. And then he smiled brightly too.
“The fuck.” It was Laura. who hadn't seen that kind of smile on her brothers face in years. Before the fire.
“What’s the plan?” Derek asked, knowing that Stiles had already put everything together.
“We’re going to help Peter. Figure things out with the Argents. Scott actually gets the choice of the bite, which he’ll take quickly-”
Dereks eyebrows rose at that. “You think he’ll take the bite? After all the moping and moaning we've heard the last years?”
“Scotts a little drama queen. When Peter bit him it wasn’t his choice. But you tell Scott about all the pros and cons and he’ll take it in a heartbeat and Melissa will be the first to encourage it. Scott pre wolf could barely walk up the stairs without needing his inhaler. We’ll involve Jackson, Lydia and Danny early on. Jackson becomes part of the pack first and then he gets the bite and we’ll skip over the whole Kanima thing. Lydia won’t get bit by Peter and I’ll help her with her banshee powers. You won’t have to kill Peter, and Peter won’t use her to get back from the dead. You’ll bite Isaac, Erica and Boyd and we’ll get things right this time. We can easily handle the alpha pack. No alpha pack, no Nogitsune. We know what’ll come here and we can handle it. We have the knowledge to change everything for the better.”
“Woah. Woah. Woah. I’m not going to bite anyone.” Laura finally interrupted. She had watched Derek and Stiles go back and forth, throwing more and more ridiculous things into the mix.
The boy, who looked like a child, watched her with a cool and bored expression. “Who said anything about you turning anyone? Derek is going to turn them.”
“Stiles. I’m not an alpha. Laura is. And if she doesn’t want to give someone the bite we can’t do anything about it.”
Stiles looked exasperatedly at Derek. As if he couldn't believe that Derek was telling him this. “Derek, have you seriously still not figured it out yet? What am I?
The way Stiles had asked that question, Derek knew exactly what Stiles had asked. “You’re a True Spark.”
Derek heard Laura breath in sharply. A second away from asking a million questions. Stiles didn’t let her.
“And how does a True Spark come into existence?” Stiles voice was incredibly soft.
“When a True Alpha awakens his powers. It doesn’t mean that with every True Alpha comes a True Spark. True Alphas are rare, but True Sparks more so. So when Scott became a True Alpha, you had a strong enough bond with him and the potential of magic. So you became a True Spark.”
Stiles hmmd. As if he wasn’t quite content with that statement. “When did my powers first manifest?”
“At the club. When we had to go after Jackson. You closed the mountain ash ring when you didn't have enough left to do it.”
Derek could see the smirk on Stiles face, though he didn’t quite understand it. “Scott wasn’t an Alpha yet.”
“What?” Dereks voice barely made a sound. That couldn’t be right. “Maybe because you and Scott are so close-”
Stiles’ voice ever so soft with his next words. “That’s not how it works, Derek. I saw your eyes you know. Seconds before you killed, Peter. Saw you hesitating, because you didn’t actually want to kill the last living member of your family. But you also knew you had to do it, because Peter was already too far gone. But that moment before you did it, your eyes were red. You hesitated and in that moment you became a True Alpha. And then you killed Peter, so you were an Alpha no matter what. You didn’t realize you were a True Alpha as well. I’m not Scotts True Spark. I’m yours, Derek.”
Derek was utterly shocked at that revelation. “That can’t be right.”
Stiles smiled more and stood closer to his Alpha. His hand landing on Dereks chest. “When have I ever been wrong?”
“Never.” Derek says it like a prayer. His eyes closing at the admittance.
“Exactly. And I really need my powers back, so we can help Peter and the rest of our pack. So do me a favour, Sourwolf. Show me your eyes and believe in yourself the same way I do.”
And when has Derek ever not done what Stiles wanted? He flashed his eyes at Stiles and looked at the way this boy was looking at him. With so much love and pride and confidence and believe and trust. And with all that it wasn‘t difficult to just believe. Derek could feel it. Could feel his eyes changing colors once again and his strength growing stronger, his bonds changing, the one with Stiles snapping back stronger than it had ever been, because Stiles truly was his True Spark. And while Dereks eyes glowed red, Stiles’ started to glow the familiar purple, his magic cursing through his veins again.
Stiles chuckled at having his magic back, pulling Derek into a hug and enjoying the feeling of their new bond.
“What’s the plan?” Derek asked when they moved out of the hug.
“I’m going to go talk with Chris. I’ll need his help with Peter.”
“You think Chris will switch so easily? He’s still with Victoria.”
“He doesn’t love Victoria. And if I can promise him Peter, a functioning Peter and explain what Gerard did when they were both teenagers, he'll come with me quickly. Anyways I’ll go to the Argents house and you can get started with the apartment. Because we are not doing the living in a burnt house and in an abandoned train station for a year again. And when we’ve all gotten settled we’ll start with rebuilding the house. I’ll meet you at the hospital. Wait for me to go in. I’ll call you when I’ve convinced Chris.” With that Stiles turned and walked into a side ally, making sure nobody was watching him, and with a wink to Derek he magicked himself away, probably straight to the Argents doorstep.
“What. The. Actual. Fuck. The fuck just happened. What the fuck?!” And oops, Derek had kinda forgotten that Laura was there, too focused on Stiles and their plan.
“Ehhhh.” Eloquent as ever Derek.
“Who the fuck was that?” Her eyes were huge when his sister looked at him.
Derek rubbed the back of his neck, he could feel his ears getting red. He knew what Laura must have seen. Stiles and Derek had always had their own thing. “That was Stiles.”
Laura threw him a no shit Sherlock expression. Simply raising her eyebrow for him to continue.
“Stiles Stilinski. The Sheriffs kid. His best friend got bitten by Peter and he was the first to figure it out. We're pack.”
“Do you always just do what he says?”
Derek laughed at that. There was a time where he would definitely not admit to that. “Yes. He’s earned it though. He saved my life more times than I can count. He’a also wicked smart and it’s not a good idea to go against him. His instincts always run right.”
“Hmmm. You lied.”
Derek looked at his sister confused. “What?”
“You lied. When you said you didn’t know why he was here aswell. You lied. What’s the truth?” She had crossed her arms in front of her. To look more intimidating.
Of course she would have caught that. “I’m not a hundred percent sure why he’s here. But I have an idea.”
Laura huffed. She had always hated it when she had to pull stuff out of him. “And what would that idea be?”
He couldn’t hide the soft smile on his face anymore. He wasn’t affraid to admit it. Not anymore. “He’s my mate.”
The annoyed look on Lauras face morphed into a dumb founded one. The ‘what’ that left her lips was bearly audible even with werewolf ears. “Oh my god, Derek. Why didn't you introduce me to him?”
“He doesn’t know.”
At that Laura smacked him over the head. “Why the fuck doesn’t he know?! Haven’t you known him for multiple years already?!”
“He was sixteen when we met, Laura. And the Sheriffs kid. And we’ve been through a lot and I wasn’t ready. There were more bad relationships in my life. Really bad ones and it’s fucked even more with my head and I didn’t feel like I was good enough for him.”
Laura moved quickly and pulled her little brother into her arms. Her little brother who sounded way older than 20 years old. Who techniqually was older than she was now. She knew how Kate had fucked with his head and heart and if Derek openly admitted that there were more relationships like that, she knew that it was probably worse than he made it seem. “He’s your mate Derek. You got a second chance at this whole thing. You’re a True Alpha, for fucks sake. And he’s your True Spark. Plus you’re mates? It’s meant to be. You deserve this. You are so good, Derek. And you deserve to be happy after everything you’ve been through.”
“He’s sixteen Laura. Even if I’m ready now. Hell, even if he would have me. In this time he’s physically sixteen and still the only kid of the Sheriff.”
“With everything you’ve told me about him, don’t you think if you told Stiles the truth, that he would find a way to make it work? To make everything work. Also he’s a True Spark. If he’s really that powerful and that smart like you said it will probably only take him an hour tops to figure everything out and make a plan.”
Derek was blushing again. Because his sister was right. And for once he actually wanted to go for happiness. To hold tight to it and never let it go. And that’s what Stiles was. Happiness.
“I’ll tell him.”
She pulled him back into a hug and scented him. He smelled diffrently, now that he was an Alpha, but still Derek through and through. “I’m so proud of you, little bro.”
After he had left Derek and Laura, Stiles had magicked himself right to the Argents doorstep. He hesitated before knocking though. Since seeing the two Hales, he had barely been able to process everything that had happened. When his mind had woken up in his younger self, Stiles had of course done his fair share of research. But he didn’t know what the reason was he ended up in this time. So he started to try and change things. He tried, but wasn’t able to hack into the Sheriff files to figure out Lauras old phone number. So he asked his dad to find it for him, no questions asked. Only telling his dad that it was really important, but he couldn’t tell him why right now. Though he would in the future. His father had hesitated in the beginning, but he could see how serious Stiles had been. He had never seen his son like that, so he gave in. It was a bust though. It was an old number and he couldn’t get a hold of the Hales in New York to warn them from the dangers in Beacon Hills. He started to follow Peters nurse, so he could find some evidence against her. Stiles also made arrangements to get Isaac away from his abusive father earlier than he did before. None of it had been easy. But he tried all of his tricks he had learned in the last couple of years. If he didn’t know how he had gotten here, he could at least use the chance that he had gotten.
And then he had seen Derek with Laura, after leaving the diner with his dad. And he knew that it must have been his Derek, because in Stiles’ time Laura came to Beacon Hills alone. And he’d been right. It was so easy to fall into old banter with Derek. And he marveled how easy it had actually been to convince Derek that he was a True Alpha. He had expected more residence from his Sourwolf and for him to have to lay out more facts. But in true Derek fashion, he simply believed Stiles. The same way he had when he told Derek that Jennifer had taken his dad.
The last couple of days had been odd without his magic. Stiles had lived with it for years now and it was now second nature to him. He simply was magic.
He knew it was there, but he couldn’t access it. And then Derek’s eyes had changed with intent and suddenly it was all there again. And this time he didn’t need weeks to learn spells and rituals and his intent. He knew exactly how to use the power pulsating in his body. And he was as powerful as he was back in his old timeline.
After letting all the events of earlier run through his head, Stiles raised his hand and rang the doorbell. Lucky for him it was Chris who opened the door. He didn’t even know how he would have explained to Victoria that he needed to talk to her husband.
“Yes? How can I help you?”
“Hello, my name is Stiles Stilinski. I know this might sound odd, but there is an urgent matter that I have to discuss with you.” He wasn’t even surprised when Chris started to close the door in his face. “Thank you, but I don’t want to buy anything.”
Stiles quickly put his foot between the door and the opening. “It’s about Peter Hale.”
Chris hesitated. Because it wasn’t just Peter’s name that made him stop. It was the way this young boy had said it, as if he knew more than he let on.
“What about Peter Hale?”
“This isn’t really a conversation that you want to have in the open.”
Chris narrowed his eyes, but he did open the door to let Stiles in. “We can talk in my office.”
Stiles followed Chris inside and into the office. “Okay. We’re alone. Now what is it that you think I need to know about Peter Hale?”
Stiles took place in the seat in front of the desk. “I know you’re his mate.” He watched Chris get pale, swollow once and then take his own seat in his deskchair. “I’m listening.”
“It is a pretty long story. I’ll try to make it as brief as I can. As unbelievable as it might sound to you. I’m from the future. Well my mind is. About ten years give or take. I got thrown back into my sixteen year old body. In the future I am part of the McCall-Hale werewolf pack. And so are you. I know you are a hunter. As you are in the future. I know that you and Peter are mates because you are together in my present. Mated. A lot of very very bad things will happen in the future. A lot of people are going to die. And because I’m now back here I will try to do everything in my power to change things, so they do not have to die again.”
“Peter left me when we were seventeen. He didn’t want to be with me anymore.” Chris contered. Stiles could see how deeply hurt the man still was about that.
“I know it seemed like that from your perspective. But in my time we learned the truth about what happened. I know that you and Peter were together in secret. That nobody knew. Because Peter was Alpha Hales little brother and you were the son of the Argent Hunter family. Star-crossed lovers. Mates. You knew that both of your families would not look happily upon your relationship. So you loved each other in secret.
But it got out. Talia figured it out. And so did Gerard. Talia was worried about her brother and what you as a hunter of a big hunter family could do to her family and pack. The fact that the whole Hale pack would be in constant danger if you two were together. So one day she told Peter that he had to end things with you. That he had to leave you. He refused. He refused even when she Alpha-voiced him. So she took out her claws, stuck them in his neck and took away all his memories of you, the time you had together and the ability to recognise you as his mate.
That's why he never went back to your meeting place. Or why he seemed to ignore you when you wanted to talk to him. All he knew about you, was that you were a hunter, and dangerous to him and his pack.
And shortly afterwards your father took you out of school and you moved away, and as soon as you turned 18 he arranged your marriage to Victoria. He knew about your relationship with Peter. And he moved you and forced you into a marriage that you definitely weren’t ready for, nor wanted.”
Stiles could see the emotions sturring in Chris’ face. He knew it was a lot but there was still more. “That’s not everything?”
“No. Unfortunately not. You know that Peter has been in a coma since the fire. In my time, this is the time that he woke. But being trapped in his body, awake, but not able to talk or communicate or move, left him on the brink of insanity. When he wakes he does so in secret. When Laura Hale comes to town, he kills her and becomes the new Alpha. He kills more people and turns my best friend without consent. It’s the catalyst of a lot of very bad things that happen in this town. Derek Hale and I were returned to here and we want to change everything that happens. We want to save everyone that dies. And that includes Peter.”
“So why did you come to me?”
“Couple of reasons. First you are my family, my pack. I want you to be happy and I knew telling you the truth about your past was a good first start. And secondly you are who I need to bring Peter back from his coma. To heal him, anchor him and make sure he doesn’t go on another killing spree.”
Chris’ hand drags heavily over his face. “What do you need me to do?”
Stiles sits forward in his seat, leaning towards the hunter. “I need you to be ready to reform your mate bond with Peter. I will open up Peter's blocked memories and you need to be there when I do so. He will need his mate to anchor him.”
“You want me to leave my wife?”
“I want you to leave your marriage. And that’s all Victoria is to you. Don’t deny it. You have told me that yourself. Leave this unhappy life and get back together with your mate that you have missed for nearly 18 years. Join the pack that Derek, Laura and I will rebuilt.”
Chris laughed without humor. “I will definitely not join your pack.”
Stiles only smilled smugly. “You will. You are mated to a werewolf, your daugther will be mated to two and you will definitely want to help us kill Kate after I explain in detail that she raped a sixteen year old boy and burned the Hale house down, resulting in many deaths and YOUR mate being in a coma for the last six years.”
Chris eyes flutter closed at those words. “Okay. When will you help Peter?”
“Right now if you have time.”
Chris stands up quickly. “Let’s go.”
Stiles texts Derek on the way there. They are both already there when Stiles arrives with Chris at the hospital.
Derek smiles at Chris. “Hey Chris.” Chris only nodds.
“Argent.” Laura's voice is cool.
Stiles only rolls his eyes. “Cut it out Laura. He’s your uncle’s mate. Which makes him your uncle and pack.”
He could sense that Chris wanted to argue about that, so Stiles sends him a look that shut the other man up fast.
Laura and Derek walk up ahead and talk to the nurse at the front desk, telling them that they are here to visit their uncle Peter. They are shown to the room and then left alone. Chris froze the moment he saw Peter lying in that hospital bed. Burns all over.
Stiles gestured to Laura to guide the door and make sure that nobody entered the room. He then walked up to Peter's left side and gestured to Chris to come to his other side. “Hold his hand Chris. You won’t have to do much. Just think of him and your relationship and your bond. I will first bring him out of the coma and then remove the block in his head.” Chris only nods. His eyes had never moved from Peters face.
Stiles put his hand on Peters forehead and then summoned his magic into his hands, pressing the other onto the wolfs chest. “Peter. My name is Stiles. I know that you are awake, but that you cannot answer. I am a True Spark and I am going to help you out of this coma. And I know your thoughts are in jumbles right now. I will settle you first.” Stiles pressed his magic deeper and he could feel how the chaos in Peters head calmed down. How it was clearer now. “Peter, now I am going to wake you up from the coma. I will have to repress your healing powers for now, because we won’t be able to explain how your burns disappeared.” Another deep shove of his powers and Peter opened his eyes. “Hello Peter. I know that you are very angry at the moment, but I need you to focus. I will help you find an anchor. Your sister has removed some memories from you a long time ago. I will remove the blockage now.” As he moved into Peters brain he mentally saw the blockage and then gripped it and pulled it away. Stiles could feel the memories rolling over Peter and he could see it in the way his eyes were suddenly huge. Stiles looked towards Christopher, nodding to him.
“Peter? It’s me.”
“Christopher?”
“Hey.”
Peter closed his eyes again. “I’m so sorry.”
“Not your fault, sweetheart.” Chris affirmed. His voice so incredibly soft and then he pulled Peters hand that he had been holding to his mouth, kissing the back of it.
“Hi, Peter. I know this must be a lot right now. Laura and Derek are here as well. It’s been six years since the fire. You will probably have to stay in the hospital a couple of days longer, they will want to do some tests, but I will push with my magic, so it will go as quickly as possible. And as soon as you are out of here I will help you heal the burns.”
Peter nodded his head. “Thank you.”
The Spark smiled at the wolf, who already seemed so different from the one he had known before. “You are very welcome, Peter.”
Stiles stepped back and gave space to the Hale siblings. Laura and Derek moved forward and it’s Derek who hugs his uncle first, not caring about the broken man he had known in the other life, that had taken Laura from him.
He gave them ten minutes alone.
“I’m really sorry, but we’ll probably have to get some doctors in now, to tell them that you are awake. I’m sure Chris will want to stay with you. You have a lot to catch up. I will have to borrow Derek and Laura for the rest of the day though. I’m sure they’ll be back early tomorrow.”
They get the doctors, and there is a lot of turmoil at the revelation that a six year coma patient had finally woken up.
They all drove back to the Stilinski residence. In the house, Stiles turned to Derek. “Kate?”
Derek nods. “I’ll drive to the Sheriff's station and make a statement.”
“I’ll text dad that you’re coming and that he should be the one handling it. I'll also tell him that you should both come back here afterwards.”
Dereks eyebrows jumped up in surprise. “You’re going to tell him?”
“I can’t do the whole lying thing again. Plus I’m not exactly sixteen. It’s going to be easier with my magic this time around anyway.”
Derek nodded and then turned around to walk back to the Camaro. Laura stayed behind with Stiles.
Stiles turned to the older Hale sibling “Can I get you anything?”
“No I’m good." Laura hesitated only for a second before asking her question. "So, you know about Kate?”
Stiles let himself fall down on the coach. What a long day it had already been, and it was far from over. “Yeah. He told me. Well I had already figured it out before then, but he also made the choice to tell me.”
Laura sat down next to the strange boy who had changed her life so much in only a couple of hours. “He really trusts you.”
Stiles smiled. “Yeah. It’s what we do. Trust each other. Save each other's life over and over again.”
Laura, sitting next to him, one knee on the couch, facing the boy who looked so young and sounded like he’s been through so much. “You like him.”
Stiles huffs at that. “Of course I like him. What’s not to like. It’s Derek.”
“So why haven’t you told him?”
His eyes became serious at that. “Because I can’t be the one to inititate, Laura. Dereks been through too fucking much, more than Kate. More than we have talked about.
Because I was looking right at him, when he figured out that we are mates. After I had held him up in a pool for two hours, after being paralyzed by the Kanima. He had walked me back to my jeep. He had looked at me and his eyes had gotten huge, pupils blown and he was breathing in deeply. And then it clicked in his head and he looked so fucking scared. Because that Derek, didn’t think he was good enough for a mate. I was human. And I was sixteen. And he was affraid that he would be exactly like Kate. So I kept my mouth shut. I was always there for him, as much as I could and as much as he would let me. I knew he would get there at some point. But it needed to be his decision, because it had been taken from him in his past so many times. And this was something I could easily do for him.”
Lauras mouth had fallen open. “You know that you’re mates. And you know that Derek knows.”
“Of course I know. I researched a shit ton when Scott was first turned. And I got books from Deaton and Peter’s laptop. He’s going to tell me when he’s ready." Stiles smiled at Laura and then added "And then I’ll probably jump him.”
Laura was speechless. This boy. This boy was so fucking good. And perfect for her little brother. She wouldn’t even give him the shovel talk, because the Spark would never ever dare to hurt her brother. She didn’t know what to say, so she quickly moved forward and pulled him into a hug. Stiles gladly hugged her back.
An hour later the Sheriff and Derek walked through the door. The Sheriff looked suspicious, even more so when he saw Stiles sitting on the sofa with Laura Hale.
Derek didn’t look as haunted as he did the last time he had explained everything to Stiles’ father.
“Stiles, what the hell is going on? How do you even know Derek and Laura?”
“That’s quite a long story, Daddio. Why don’t you put your gun away and we’ll take a seat at the kitchen table.” His father got even more suspicious after the gun comment.
“Start explaining. Now.”
“Well it’s about werewolves, magic and time travel. But you’ll need a more detailed story.”
And so they told his father everything. How supernatural creatures were real. That Derek and Laura were werewolves, that Stiles had magic. Everything that happened in the other timeline and what they had already done in this one. And what their next steps were.
It was big, live changing news, but the Sheriff took it like he had done everything else in his life. With his head held high. The longer he listened to his son, the more he believed him. Because that wasn’t the version of his kid that he knew. He seemed so much older than sixteen years.
At the end the Sheriff went to bed. Laura took the Camaro back to their hotel room, after Stiles had asked Derek to stay a little longer, so he could show him the research he had done on Isaacs father. The faster they got him out of there, the better.
It was one o’clock in the morning when they finished discussing everything, and when Stiles remembered what he had wanted to do since he had gotten his magic back. He closed his eyes and focused his magic onto himself and pushed. He could feel his body changing, growing and stretching in some places.
When he opened his eyes again he could feel how much stronger his body was now. His body was his own again. The version of it before they had been zapped back in time.
Derek only smirked at the new, well old, look and raised one of his impressive eyebrows at Stiles. “I can’t do sixteen again. Plus we look the same age now.” Stiles smirked.
“What about everybody who lives here?”
Stiles shrugged. “I put on a glamor for people who aren’t pack. Man, I’m going to have to get my GED. And I have to do University again.” He tried not to fall into a hole with all the things he needed to do, or do again.
“We did it. We’re going to save them all.” Stiles grinned at Derek.
And Derek smiled back. He loved that grin on Stiles. And suddenly he couldn’t not say it. “We’re mates.”
This time it was Stiles raised eyebrow. “Sorry. I didn’t actually want to just blurt it out like that. But it’s true and I should have told you a long time ago. We’re mates. And I love you.”
Stiles expression quickly morphed into a smile that got brighter with every second passing. And then he quickly moved towards Derek and just as he had told Laura, he jumped the wolf. His arms hooking behind Dereks neck and his legs circling Dereks waist. And then he was finally kissing Derek Hale. He could feel Dereks hands on his back and his lips moving with his.
Stiles grinned again, his head moving back so he could look at Derek. “Took you long enough, Sourwolf.”
Derek rolled his eyes. “Of course you already knew.” He kissed Stiles again. Because he could now. “Thank you for waiting for me to be ready.”
They fall back into each other again. What a life changing day it had been. It had come to an end. And tomorrow their new lives would start to unfold.
